Second floor common room - Friday afternoon

Faile sat crossed-legged on the floor in front of the TV. She tucked her divided skirts around her bare feet and leaned forward a bit more.

"Do it again," she commanded John who sat on the couch behind her, holding the remote control.

John peered at his fake big brother. "You would torture me, wouldn't you?"

"Did I torture Teddy?" he asked.

"I don't know," he replied. "I'll have to ask Teddy about that."

"John," Chad regarded him with the utmost seriousness. "I held a party for him with every kind of pie imaginable. If that's torture...."

"Would you give me pie if I turned into a dog?" John asked, totally serious. There was pie at stake, people!

"Well...." Chad considered carefully. "Yes. Even if it isn't your birthday. And, even if it is, only one, because you're not Teddy, but you are my little brother."

"This is why you're my favorite fake big brother!" John replied, grinning. "Did I tell you that the Dean made me Faile's big brother." John was very proud of this assignment and was taking it very seriously.

"You didn't," but Faile did Chad's shoulders straightened proudly. "Did you tell her that you owe everything you know to your big brother?"

"I sure did," he replied. "I'm having fun showing her around and teaching her all about life at Fandom."

"Good," Chad grunted approvingly with a nod. "I feel a legacy has been passed."

And a small family maybe had been created, which gave him warm fuzzies. And that was exactly why he didn't mention it.

John grinned at the obvious approval. "I will do my best," he replied. "How's your cat?"
