Fourth Floor Common Room [late evening]

Aravis lounged on the couch with a much smaller assortment of candy than the last time she'd tried this. She idly flipped through channels until she hit a film about some man named James Bund, who seemed to be competent enough with his weaponry and who seemed to attract irritating women like moths to a flame.

Mmm. Violence and spies and pretty people. Aravis made herself more comfortable and settled in to watch.

"I knew before," Aravis said with a small nod, relaxing a tiny, tiny bit.

Seely smiled. "I'll be long dead before I ever forget kissing you," he said.

And that got a smile.

"I've a confession to make."

"My furniture isn't on the roof again, is it?" Seely asked. "Because I haven't even gotten revenge yet, and it's unfair to take revenge out of turn."

"No, I didn't do anything to your things," Aravis said, rolling her eyes. "But I didn't actually hear a noise at the luau that time."

"You didn't?"

Aravis shook her head.

Seely scratched his head. "Any particular reason?"

"Because it wasn't the right time," Aravis said, as though he should know this.

Seely looked even more puzzled, but he nodded and said "Okay."

Aravis sighed. "You were going to kiss me, weren't you? It wasn't the right time. I'd been here...what, a week? and you weren't wearing a shirt and there were other people there and it was dark and it was all the sort of thing my mother and Hwin would've both sternly frowned at, and I wanted it to be perfect, if it was going to happen. So I pretended to hear something and then it did happen at the right time, eventually."

Aravis was very pleased with this explanation.

"I was actually more confused by why you suddenly decided to confess," Seely said. "But I was going to kiss you."

Aravis blushed. "Because part of it being the right time is that I wanted it to be memorable," she said, shrugging. "And you reminded me, and I thought enough time had passed to tell you. Just so you don't think I started out not wanting to kiss you at all. It's the sort of thing I would wonder about, if it'd happened to me."

"I actually thought you heard a noise and I was just too distracted to hear it."

Seely grinned. "I think we've covered that a couple of times already."

"Sometimes it bears repeating," Aravis said.

"Well, you're a distracting girl," Seely pointed out. "Guy doesn't stand a chance around you."

She smiled just a little at that. "I try."

Seely's grin broadened. "I'd say you succeed more than try."

Aravis grinned. "Then I'd best be careful, if my looks are an impairment to your entire gender."

"Only those members of it with eyes."

"I could have an army of distracted boys at my disposal," Aravis mused.

Seely pouted. "But I like being your only idiot."

"I wouldn't know what to do with more than one, anyway," Aravis said, scooting closer. "I barely have enough patience for just you."
