Third floor commoon room, Saturday night

He had been back in town for a couple days and watched his girlfriend leave. This meant one thing: Saturday night vegging in front of the TV with enough popcorn for anyone who might stop by.

Tonight he was watching the Discovery Channel, the big nerd.

"Is he a new student?" Peter asked.

Well, that answered Chad's question. "Nope. My new cat. So that's what's new and exciting with me."

"That is definitely both new and exciting," Peter said. "I'll have to meet him."

Peter had no clue how much he shouldn't want to see the cat.

No one ever did.

"Usually, I birng him with me, but the new kids make him nervous and he was sleeping from playing all day."

"He'll get used to them," Peter said. "I actually have to get used to two batches of new kids myself, I guess, so I know how he feels."

"Two batches?"

Chad was slow sometimes; you had to forgive him.

"I went back home at the beginning of the summer and I hear we got brand new kids this week, too," Peter said, forgivingly. "That's two."

"Oh, forgot about that," Chad said, frowning, and then realized that he wasn't sure if that came out the way he meant. "Uh, no offense, I mean."

"Don't worry about it," Peter said. "There's so much going on and so many Peters around that it's easy to lose track."

Chad shook his head a little. "No so many Peters now. John is the new Peter."

"Really?" Peter asked. "I'm disappointed. Now there's a bunch of us but we're not special anymore."

""Yeah, there's like..." Chad appeared to be counting on one of his hands, paused as if he got lost, and then shook his head. "A lot of them. Johns, that is." He frowned. "Not sure what the Peter standing is right now."

"I'll just have to bring in a few clones and the Peters will retake our crown," Peter said with confidence.

"Epic Peter vs. John battle?" Chad suggested.

"Steel cage match, only one name will walk out the victor," Peter said.

Chad's rubbed the back of his neck. "And that one name would end up being Bob or something."

"No Bobs will be involved, actually," Peter said. "They're too busy getting apples out of buckets."

Chad arched en eyebrow. "Was that a pun?"

"Yes, it was," Peter said with a smile. "Good catch."

Holding up a hand as if to not accept any compliments for his 'catch,' Chad shook his head. Then, the hand turned into a thumbs-up. "That was a nice one," he complimented.

"Wow, that's a change of pace. Usually people shun or mock me for puns," Peter said.

"I like puns."

The problem with Chad was that he just wasn't good at showing that he liked them, but they were simple in their humour, which made them perfect for him.

"I knew there was a reason why I got along with you," Peter said.
