The front lawns, outside the dorms: Monday afternoon

Jack had gone for a run. A very long run, down to the beach and back, though about half way through he'd decided he was insane, because it was too damn hot, which was bad timing, because he still had to run back.

Luckily there was a hose he could soak his head with and a nice bit of lawn to stretch out on. Which was what he was doing right now, wearing nothing but a pair of very short shorts, lying on his back while he worked on his tan.

He gave her a look, "We're you looking for me, sweetheart?"

"Yes," she said with complete truthfullness. Even if she didn't exactly mean it the way he meant it. But looking out for someone in an effort to possibly avoid... Well, that was still looking wasn't it? "So, how was your day?"

"It was good," he said with a cheeky grin. "How was yours? The rest of your day go all right at the book store?"

"Well that's a sight," Isabel said dryly as she made her way back to the dorms after her workshop.

Evie was on her way to the Library after her workshop, when she saw a very welcome sight. "Jack Jack Jack Jack JACK!" And she bounced over, squealing in delight. "You're back!"

"The book store went fine and my classes went well, though I don't know how they stuck me in that Redemption class." She made a little face. "Oh well, it will be fine, I guess."

"It is, yes," he agreed, smiling crookedly. It was far too easy to slip back into the old rhythm. "Be cooler without your shirt on."

"You think I'm actually going to say no?" he asked, eyebrows raised as he looked Johnny over pretty pointedly. "Be my guest. Pull up some grass and stay as long as you like."

"Shouldn't be too much trouble to do that here," he said, sitting up a little bit, leaning back on his hands. "And it's not like he's gone forever."

"People usually sound a lot happier when they say that," he drawled, shading his eyes with one hand. "Hey, Isabel. Have fun with the first day of classes?"

"Nope. Just a week." She smiled at Jack. "It's easier to let him go because he always comes back. That's a first in my life."

"Hey, Evie. Yeah, I am." He had to grin at her, because she was such a bumblefooted puppy, all enthusiasm and smiles. "How are you doing? Haven't been kidnapped by any trolls lately?"

"I've seen it before. I'm older and wiser now," she smirked. "It was interesting. Couldn't go near the unicorn but still, he was pretty to look at."

"Well it wasn't my first thought, no," he said, watching Jack look him over. And ohhkay, Isabel was definitely right. Sitting down, he pulled his legs up and wrapped his arms around them lazily. "Damn hot out here. You should be doing this at the beach, or by the pool at least." Not that the heat bothered Johnny. Not at all.

"I guess I'll find out," he said and, without really knowing why, pulled his shirt over his head and draped it across his lap. "Now, I might get sunburn."

"Redemption? What kind of class is that?" He asked skeptically. He wouldn't have signed up for it either - just the name sounded all kinds of wrong.

Which Jack had not really expected to happen. He lifted one hand and brushed it across Cedric's shoulder, just a fleeting touch. "I'll send you inside before you do."

Evie almost wanted to pounce on him and give him a hug, but, shirtless. Not that she hadn't seen it before, but really. There are limits.

Instead, she went to grab his hand and swing it, bouncing on her toes. "No trolls, and no invasions to speak of, and I missed the one with the tiny meterorite monsters! Aside from absolute hordes of new people, but that's all right, most of them seem quite nice. But you're here! Now! Is everything all right? Are you staying long? Oh, you didn't see yesterday's flag football game, did you? Because I really never would have taken my shirt off, I was just saying that."

"It's taught by Ares and it's supposed to be a class about how the idea of redemption is just a bunch of nonsense."

Lana sighed. "Oh well, what can you do?"

"I like the heat," he said with a sly smile. "And a lot less people come casually wandering past either of those places. Which just makes this the better choice."

"And what happens if I resist going inside?" Cedric asked, fingers playing with his shirt just for something to do.

"Redemption being nonsense?" Now that was a little different. "I could totally do that. So, you're stuck there, hmm? And how have you been sleeping at night, by the way?"

Johnny smirked, "So Jack is a people person. Never would have guessed it," he grinned wryly.

"Then you might get burned," he said absently, watching Cedric's fingers intently. "And I don't want that to happen."

"Well," she was definitely hedging a little on this one. "Not too badly? I've been staying up late reading." And getting up as soon as the first dreams hit, but no need to share that.
