The front lawns, outside the dorms: Monday afternoon

Jack had gone for a run. A very long run, down to the beach and back, though about half way through he'd decided he was insane, because it was too damn hot, which was bad timing, because he still had to run back.

Luckily there was a hose he could soak his head with and a nice bit of lawn to stretch out on. Which was what he was doing right now, wearing nothing but a pair of very short shorts, lying on his back while he worked on his tan.

"Redemption being nonsense?" Now that was a little different. "I could totally do that. So, you're stuck there, hmm? And how have you been sleeping at night, by the way?"

"Well," she was definitely hedging a little on this one. "Not too badly? I've been staying up late reading." And getting up as soon as the first dreams hit, but no need to share that.

"We're camping out tonight, what do you say? Third floor common room, sleeping bags, popcorn, the sports channel, the whole nine yards. What do you say?"

"Well, other than the sports channel it all sounds pretty good. What about some action adventure movies instead?" she counter-offered.

Johnny caved, because she was agreeing, "All right, I'll toss in some of those in too. But no chick flicks, okay? I mean, unless you have a slumber party one or something." He grinned mischievously.

"Okay, no chick flicks. But no horror," Lana insisted. "I don't mind fighting and things blowing up, but no scary evil gory things."

"No gore, got it," Johnny said then gave her a serious look. "Can't believe you didn't come out and watch the flag football game yesterday."

"I'm sorry, Johnny," she said. "I just... couldn't. I'd have just been thinking that I was supposed to be there cheering for Jim, and..."

She shook her head. "It would have been a miserable afternoon."

He reached for her hand, "It's okay, I understand. I just don't want to think you're ditching me or something cause I'm being a tad overbearing while Jim's gone."

She let him take her hand and managed a smile. "No, I'm not ditching you. Honestly. I just... couldn't go."

"No, I get it, really." he said, reassuring her. "Honest. It was a great game though. I went shirtless even." So did the rest of his team but that wasn't important.

Lana laughed. "Why do all Fandom things seem to degenerate into shirtlessness?" she asked the universe.

"It was the name of the game. Annette started it. Wasn't me, promise."

Lana shook her head. "If it hadn't been Annette it would have been someone else."

"That's right!" Johnny laughed. "Always someone else. I'm never the beginner of anything."

"Oh you don't fool me!" Lana replied. "I'd bet you're a big instigator. You just don't get caught as often as you should!"

He waggled his brows, "Are you trying to tell me you'd like me to go shirtless, Lana?"

She smiled innocently at him. "I'm sure you look just lovely shirtless. I do enjoy the shirtless days whenever they occur."
