Fourth floor common room, Thursday evening

Dean had left his room, wondering if a change of venue would silence the music, which not so much.

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion

He flopped down on the sofa and grabbed the tv remote, wondering if he could find something to drown it out. It was a good song and all, but there was only so many times through he could listen to it.

It took a minute for Sam to realize what Dean meant and make a face. "You're so disgusting sometimes."

Dean laughed louder. "Dude, I'm just going by experience. And guess which baby boy I'm talking about?"

"Certainly not me, because I was a good baby," Sam insisted.

That really caused Dean to crack up.

Sam glared. "That really wasn't that funny."

"Hate to break it to you, Sammy, but you've never been an angel."

"I'm more of one than you are," he protested.

"Yeah, but I don't try to pretend I am one," Dean pointed out.

"I'm not pretending," Sam said, scowling. "Okay, maybe I wasn't the most well-behaved child ever. But I'm good now."

"Unless I leave you alone with Dad for too long. Or you decide you don't like my best friend."

Sam sighed. "Okay, you can call me on the Alec thing, because I totally deserve that. But Dad and I are a different thing entirely."

"Oh?" Dean asked with raised eyebrows.

"Yeah, because being good isn't going to make my relationship with Dad change," Sam replied. "Things between us have gotten a little better lately, mostly because it seems like Zoe's pregnancy has knocked some of the drill sergeant out of him. But...it's not like dealing with Alec, where I can choose to be more friendly towards him and make things work. No matter what I do, I'm never going to get along with Dad like you do."

"Well no, because you're not me. But you could get along with Dad like you," Dean said.

"It doesn't work like that, Dean. We have nothing in common, you know that. If the topic of hunting doesn't come up, then we can keep the peace, but otherwise...and why do you make it sound like I don't want to get along with him?" Sam asked.
