Salle - Morning

Normally Zuko would train with his real dual blades, but this morning he had picked out two of the lighter practise swords to move through his usual drills as he waited for Jo to turn up. He pretended to ignore and of the commentary Trick had been giving even if he did agree that it might be fun. Not that he was going to admit that out loud.

"You'd do better with a sword too," Zuko pointed out. He closed the distance again, bringing one blade down to her shoulder, followed by a quick sweep with his leg to bring her off balance.

"Yeah, sure, if I'd ever picked up anything larger than a Bowie," Jo agreed, aiming a blow with the butt of her knife at his knee as she went down.

Zuko had no clue what a Bowie was and he caught her retaliating too late, the blow hitting his calf as he was still moving. He stepped back a little, not going to try hitting her until she got up. "Gives you more range unless you're using throwing knives."

"But they're also kind of hard to explain to the cops," Jo said, standing and circling Zuko. "And most hunters use guns for range."

"I don't need to explain myself to anyone and I don't need a gun," Zuko said, jumping forward, aiming for her side again.

Jo twisted, swearing under her breath as the sword scraped along her ribs, hoping to use his momentum against him, she stabbed at his belly.

Umph. He pulled away, but his direction was still forward and she hit his side. He automatically brought his sword down to her back as he tried to create more space between them again.

That would be Jo hitting the ground with a thump and a burst of swearing like a sailor.

Zuko raised an eyebrow at the swearing and then made the possible dumb decision to move closer. "You okay?" he asked.

Still swearing, Jo rolled over and threw her knife at him. "Just peachy," she gasped.

He jumped out of the way and raised his swords again, knowing she had one last knife left. "If you're sure."

Jo pulled out her last dagger out of her bot as she stood. "Yeah, I'm sure."

Zuko nodded and didn't make the offer to put one of his blades aside again, not wanting to insult. As soon as she was up, he jumped forward trying to knock the dagger from her hand.

Jo ducked and used her free arm to block as she aimed a slash along his arm.

Zuko twisted to the side, pushing her arm away with the blade she had blocked and using the space it created to hit her side with the other sword.

Jo didn't really have much room to manoeuvre and winced as the sword connected.

Zuko moved back again, giving her more room and waited for a moment to see what she wanted to do.

Jo feinted with a high slash at his chest, before throwing the knife low and hard at his foot.

Zuko winced as it hit, but he kicked it aside before looking up at her. "You don't give up," he remarked.

By this point Jo was breathing heavily from the exertion. "Not really," she said, smiling slightly. "You'd pretty much have to kill me first. Technically, I think you did."

"It was an unfair advantage," Zuko remarked. He stepped back to the knife, picking it up on the tip of his blade and held it out for her to take.

Jo grinned and took the knife. "Which I agreed to, so I can't call foul there."

"No," Zuko agreed and paused. "What's a bowie?"

"Hunting knife," Jo said, holding her hands about a foot apart. "Usually about this long, can be a little longer though."

He nodded in understand and went to put the practise blades away. "I still prefer swords."
