Fourth floor comon room: Saturday afternoon

Karal stumbled into the common room in something of a daze.

In his arms was a chinchilla. Esther the chinchilla, in fact, and she was extremely cute, all bright eyes and twitching nose.

Unfortunately she was also talking. A lot. "...so this is a common room. I've never seen a common room before. What makes it common? That seems like a strange name. Can I have a biscuit? Or a carrot? I bet there's some in that big white box over there. Put me down so I can hop around! I want to see why it's common!"

Karal set her down on the table, sank into a chair, and let his head thump onto the table top. Esther was still talking. "Why did you do that? Didn't that hurt? This isn't the floor, I can't get to the white box from here." Hop hop, nudge nudge. "Your hair is soft. Not as soft as mine, but it's soft. Can I get down? I want to explore. Where's my biscuit? You were going to get me a biscuit."

"Bright Flame, please stop talking!" Karal begged her.

"But you wanted me to talk. you said so. You said you wished I could talk, and then I could! Not that I couldn't talk before, you just couldn't understand me. I don't think humans are very smart. Oh, what's over here?!"

Karal groaned and closed his eyes.

[ooc: well, it's a common room, so of course it's open! Karal wished Esther the chinchilla could talk, and lo and behold... Plus, shhhh, it always said Saturday.]

"Pleased! And welcome, albeit belatedly," Evie said. "You're welcome to share the popcorn, as soon as it's done. Do you live on this floor? I'm up on Fifth, but I sneak down here for snacks, sometimes."

He shook his head. " 'M on third, but I tend to wander around to see if there's a common room with people in it. I'm kinda a TV junkie."

"I do like modern television a great deal. Especially when there's explosions!" Evie said, taking the popcorn out of the microwave. "And the cinema as well. Have you seen the Bruce Willis films with the exploding skyscrapers?"

He nodded. "Oh yeah, a buncha times. The first one in the series is my Dad's favorite Christmas movie."

"Really? Not any of the more traditional ones?" Evie asked, amused. "Although I can see the appeal of it, certainly, over something like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Johnny shook his head. "Nah, not enough stuff gettin' blown up in the traditional ones. Why watch a buncha dear when you could see a guy take down terrorists?"

"It is much more celebratory," Evie had to agree. "And he reunites with his wife, which always makes me sigh. Happily, I should add."

Johnny smirked. "Until the next one, where she gets kidnapped again."

"Oooo! Something to look forward to!" Evie said excitedly. "I must make sure to see that one soon. Did they make many more of them?"

"I think there's four of 'em," Johnny said as he tried to remember. "Two old sequels, an' one that just came out."

"Splendid!" Evie bounced on her toes, and offered him a bag of popcorn. "We really should have another protest night, this time with movies, just to show how ridiculous some of the rules are."
