Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Afternoon

John was a failure of a big brother for never sharing the wonders of chocolate with his sibling. He decided to make it up to his little sister by gathering every sort of chocolate he could get his hands on for a tasting in the common room.

Which meant there was chocolate cake, chocolate pie, and chocolate pudding, in addition to a wide variety of chocolate candy, spread all over the common room. Far too much chocolate for two people.

"Okay, so, I think you should try the plain chocolate candy bar first. It's both classic and pure," he recommended to Faile.

Charlie wandered up a floor, hoping to find someone in particular, although just finding people she knew would've been good. She grinned when she saw John and Rodney. "Hey John. Hi Rodney!"

Hearing Charlie's greeting, Rodney turned to her and smiled brightly. "Hi!"

"How was your break?" Charlie took the opportunity to sit next to him, smiling at all the chocolate. "Wow, what's the occasion?"

"Fine, fine," he waved dismissively. "But what about yours? Did you have fun?" He waved at the chocolates. "Apparently, John was having a craving."

Charlie giggled, and picked up a bag of peanut M&M's. "It was fun, I got to see some of my old friends, and hung out a lot with my grandpa. And my aunt wasn't as stressed, so, no fighting or sniping. It's good to be back, though." She bumped her arm against his, tipping him a small grin. "Did you get the classes you wanted?"

"That's great," he smiled. "Especially that you didn't have trouble with your aunt. I'm glad that you're back, too," he said a little shyly. "Yeah, I'm taking Math, Ethics, Communication and Mod-" He broke off as he remember that John thought his other class might be an issue for her.

"I'm taking Math too! And now I'm sorry I'm not taking Communications. I did pick up debate, though." Charlie offered him the bag of M&M's and then asked curiously, "Mod what? Modern Warfare, or something?"

"Oh, that's good that you're in that class because now I'll have a reason to stay awake. I was afraid I'd end up being terribly bored in there." He took the M&M's and popped a few in his mouth nervously. "You have to understand... I signed up for it before we were actually," he gestured between the two of them, "you know. It's, um, Modern Feminism," he said sheepishly.

Charlie snickered. "Yeah, I guess most of it would be easy for you-- but hey, you can help me? Math is *so* not my thing." She looked curious, and then asked, "Modern Feminism? Really? You're actually interested in it?"

"Oh, absolutely," he agreed, "I'd be happy to give you a hand with it. Not many people really enjoy it, so you're not alone there."

Since Charlie didn't seem to have any problem with him taking a Feminism class, Rodney really should've just gone along with her assumption. "Interested? Me? Not at all. I just thought it'd be a great place to meet girls."

Charlie facepalmed a little, and said, "Oh. I get it now. Ummm..." She gave him a wary look. "Am I allowed to say 'hey!' to that at this point?"

"Um, yes, I suppose you have that right," he acknowledged. "But like I said, I did it before the 'us' thing. And it's not like I'll be trying to hit on other girls now," he attempted to defend himself.

Charlie sorted through her reaction, and arrived at: "Actually, that makes it kind of cool, then. That you're going to be in a room with girls, talking about Feminism. I'm sort of sorry I'm not taking that one too." She gave him a mischevious look. "Too bad I can't sign up for a Modern Guy class to make it *totally* fair, but too late now."

"Hey Charlie!" John greeted her. "How was your vacation?"

"Good! I got to hang out with my old friends from back home, had a cookout, and managed to avoid being drafted to go tip cows." She smiled a little more widely. "How was yours?"

"It was fun," John replied casually. "Just hung out with some friends around town."

"How are the new kids settling in? Any of the new teachers seem really cool?" She shot Rodney a glance, and then took a breath. "And, um. I kinda need to tell you something, but maybe you already know it..." She'd be incredibly relieved if he did, since she'd had to leave before she'd been able to tell John about it.

"The new kids are cool, but I haven't met any of the teachers yet," John told her. "What did you want to tell me? I'm all ears."

Charlie bit her lip, and asked, "Can I tell you in the kitchen, over here? I don't want to just blurt this out right here." She got up from her place on the couch, and pointed over to the small food area. "Just to be a little more private."

"Sure," John agreed, leading the way to the kitchen area. Thinking he had a good idea now what it was she wanted to tell him.

Charlie kept her voice down when they got there, and gave John a worried look. "I couldn't find you before I left on vacation, and I wanted to tell Rodney first, and maybe he already told you, but, um. We're dating now. He and I, I mean. Just each other." She bit her lip. "I really like you're and you're totally cool, you know? But... I understand Rodney easier."

"Yeah, Rodney told me when we were hanging out last week," John replied. "I understand. He's a cool guy." Then he said a little sheepishly. "And I might have a thing going with someone else."

"Really?" Charlie said, lighting up. "Oh, cool, now I don't have to feel so bad! Can I ask who, or are you keeping it quiet for now?"

"I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you," John teased.

Charlie snickered. "Come oooon. Now you've got me all wondering! I just hope she's cool, really. Is she one of the new people?"
