Party on the roof, Dorm roof, Friday night

River looked up at the sky. Once it got dark enough the stars would be visible. She smiled. That would be decoration enough. The music was already playing and she tooka a few dance steps, then spun around, closing her eyes.

Still, to be a proper party there was a few other things needed, and River had made sure they were there. Buffy had let her borrow the CD-player they used for the cheerleader practice, and Isabel had brought a large collection of CDs. River herself had provided snacks, mainly the kind bought from a shop, and had mixed a non-alcoholic punch.

From somewhere a few bags of glitter had appeared, available for anyone who needed it. River frowned, then shrugged. She placed the chair she had promised Adah next to the stairs, hoping that she would brave the long climb up to the roof, and put a blanket on top of it.

[Up early because I'm in a timezone that makes me want to go to bed before everyone else. Everyone's invited to party and dance. Wait for OCDs! OCDs are up!]

In the absence of a better idea (well, other than running away), Cassandra decided that she might as well. So she threaded her way through the crowd, headed toward Jamie.

"You look like a girl who doesn't want to be here," Jamie said by way of greeting. "Not in the mood to deal with the crowd?"

"It's... loud." She wasn't talking about the music either.

Jamie looked at the jumble of students that were around the roof. "Yeah. It can be a little overwhelming at times... but you survived your first week of Fandom. That's an achievement in itself."

"I'm a survivor," she shrugged. Her eyes sweep across the crowd, "There are some very... interesting people here." At the party, and not.

"Interesting is putting it mildly," Jamie said with a small grin. "You got people here not only from all walks of life, but also from other planets."

A quick look around was enough to pick out a couple of the more obvious people. The ones not quite comfortable with regular gravity. "What about you?" she finally asked as she turned back to Jamie.

"Me? I'm pretty ordinary compared to some," he replied with a small grin. "Other than the fact that I'm a mutant."

He vocalized "mutant", but Cassandra read it as "metahuman". "Really?" she frowned a bit: that was a little too close to her old life. "What do you do?"

"I can take kinetic energy and make a duplicate of myself," Jamie explained. "So say if someone hit me, I could take the energy of the punch and use it to make a another copy of me."

He then reached over and knocked on the one one time and suddenly another duplicate was standing beside him.

"He also likes to use the ability to show off at parties," the duplicate said rolling his eyes.

Cassandra frowned, "Doesn't that get confusing?" It certainly confused her... they both moved the same way.

"It can be," Jamie admitted as he absorbed his duplicate. "Especially since any duplicate I make tends to have a mind of his own sometimes. Plus absorbing their memory can be a little... trippy."

"How do you..." she frowned... "Keep it seperate?"

"Well, I really can't," Jamie admitted. "While most people's memory is linear? Mine is all mixed together."

Cassandra almost said "weird", but then remembered that most people think that about her ability to read body language. So instead she simply shrugged.
