Party on the roof, Dorm roof, Friday night

River looked up at the sky. Once it got dark enough the stars would be visible. She smiled. That would be decoration enough. The music was already playing and she tooka a few dance steps, then spun around, closing her eyes.

Still, to be a proper party there was a few other things needed, and River had made sure they were there. Buffy had let her borrow the CD-player they used for the cheerleader practice, and Isabel had brought a large collection of CDs. River herself had provided snacks, mainly the kind bought from a shop, and had mixed a non-alcoholic punch.

From somewhere a few bags of glitter had appeared, available for anyone who needed it. River frowned, then shrugged. She placed the chair she had promised Adah next to the stairs, hoping that she would brave the long climb up to the roof, and put a blanket on top of it.

[Up early because I'm in a timezone that makes me want to go to bed before everyone else. Everyone's invited to party and dance. Wait for OCDs! OCDs are up!]

Claire had never been on the roof before. The reasonfor this was simple: the roof is where people go for a certain activity, and Claire doesn't really indulge in that activity.

But she's there now, because it's River's party. And she's grinning.

After helping set up, Isabel found a nice spot to sit and observe the happenings. To encourage shirtlessness she was wearing shorts and her bright red bikini top.

There were two ways in which Adah could handle this situation. The first was to simply not go; easily, she could claim that it was just too much for her (which was true) and back out of the arrangement with River. However, the second managed to trump the first: it wasn't like she had much else to do. She wouldn't be able to have anything else to do because the stairs would take her a while, so many stairs, up and up and up, and not even temperal reality, like Escher. Adah figured she'd have an easier time with Escher stairs than regular ones.

She paced herself by reciting poetry, but not her usual poetry, or not even her usual backwards poetry, but the poetry of listing microbiotic organisms and viruses, their properties, and the sort of havoc they could wreak on a body. Ebola. Genus Ebolavirus, family Filoviridae, characterised by a long, filamentous morphology and surrounded by a lipid viral envelope, commonly causes viral hemorrhagic fever. Ectromelia. Genus Orthopoxvirus, family Poxviridae, commonly known as mousepox. Causes skin lesions and generalized disease, which can be fatal. It is the only poxvirus to cause disease naturally in mice. Equine herpesvirus. Genus uncertain, family Herpesviridae, known to cause abortions in horses....

By the time Adah got to rickettsia (genus of other non-motile, Gram-negative, non-sporeforming, highly pleomorphic bacteria, carried by parasites, and cause typhus, rickettsialpox, Boutonneuse fever and Rocky Mountain spotted fever), she'd reached the roof and the distraction of much worse sorts of things happening to her body other than the pain in her legs really lessened the task for her.

She still had to stop with her body heavily leaning against the doorframe of the door to the roof to catch her breath and keep from being dizzy, and to steel herself a moment before having to see how many people she'd have to try to pretend didn't exist. Most importantly, she couldn't let herself slip down, wall, left leg announcing, Adah, you have worked me too hard, I'm going to join the Right in rebellion against you. The stairs weren't so bad. She was getting better. She couldn't fall down.

Anemone hadn't been up on the roof yet, simply because she's mildly allergic to emo. It itches. For a dance, however, she was sure that the angst requirement had been waved for the evening.

Irulan heard about the party and decided to put in an appearance, she felt like being discreet and decided to wear her veil instead of her favorite headdress.

Because in no way at all would that ever draw attention.

There was a party. Cher needed to go to said party. She had two options: don't go in case it was lame and be all like "Oh, I so had better things to do with my time," or scope it out and keep an open mind. She could always make an appearance and pop out if it sucked.

Hm. Was it a bonus or not if she was the best-dressed person here?

And Turtle was there, because she said she'd be and because, really, the more she thought about it, the more she figured it wouldn't just be depriving her boyfriend of a party if she didn't show up, but pretty much everyone because that'show awesome she was.

Beauty wasn't sure what had prompted her to attend the dance on the roof, except that so far the people she'd met had been pleasant and interesting. And because it seemed like the kind of thing her sisters would have pushed her to do, had they known.

She was glad to see it wasn't formal, either. She'd only brought the one decent dress, and it wasn't exactly up to the standards of the sort of thing people had worn to parties in the city.

Finding a nice empty spot near the ledge surrounding the roof, Beauty sat down and wrapped her arms around her knees, to watch the dancing.

Sabriel wasn't sure what she was doing here, but if nothing else the people watching might be amusing. Watching other people dance was preferable to doing it herself.

In the week she'd been in Fandom, Cass had made it something of a habit to come up onto the roof after sundown where it was quiet so she could do some exercises.

There were people on her roof. Lots of them. What were they all doing there? She looked very much like she wanted to turn around and go find some actually quiet place.

Drinks and snacks

Apart from the usual moddable snacks there is a plate of cinnamon and mustard cookies. The punch smells like it's mostly fruit juices, but also something else, hard to define, with makes it rather... odd. You might have to ask River what's in it. It's definitely non-alcoholic though. For the less brave there aresodas and mineral waters too.

It took Jeff a moment to mentally prepare himself and go over the steps again, but after a few minutes he walked into the dance area and broke it down. If by 'broke it down', you meant performing a staggeringly music-inappropriate coordinated dance effort that incorporated movements that recalled the praying mantis, weirdly random crunches, and something that seemed to be a reenactment of the opening title sequence of 'Bitterwoman'.

He was really proud of it. And oddly well-coordinated.
