4th Floor Common Room: Saturday Morning (all morning)

Claire woke early by default, even after a long party, but she was thoughtful enough to quit her room as soon as she did, leaving the roomie to sleep.

Still in pyjamas and a big fluffy dressing gown, she curled up on the couch with cereal and chocolate milk, and switched the TV on to AMSF

It was the recent one with the really bad theme tune,but Claire wasn't that fussy.

Claire's face fell, in total sympathy without actual understanding.

"I'm sorry. What... I guess you don't wanna talk about it, huh?"

Cassandra shrugged, "It wasn't so bad. Better than having bad people, right?" She was perfectly willing to talk in generalities, not so much with the specifics.

Claire glanced at the TV for a second. She didn't say anything, but to someone with Cassandra's ability to read people, there was uncertainty.

She was worried she might have 'bad people', and was having a hard time reconciling it.

"I guess so."

"Trust me," Cass says. Then, by way of illustration, she sets her breakfast down on the nearest flat surface and pulls up the sleeve of her shirt just enough to reveal the extensive series of scars on her forearm.

Claire winced, suddenly glad for her dad and at the same time feeling really bad about thewave of relief.

"Oh my god."

Cass waves off Claire's concern and pulls the sleeve back down at the same time. "It was a long time ago."

"That's no excuse," Claire said gently. "Are you...is everything OK now?"

"Yeah." Cass thought for a moment, then repeated, "Yeah." That life was behind her now.

"Good."

And for once, Claire wasn't being in the slightest concenred about herself when she said it.

"So what classes are you taking?"

Subject change yay?

"Um... Communications, career choices, and... Inter... Inter-something." Silly big words being used for class titles.

Claire thought back to the class list, and shook her head.

"Can't remember that one," she said. "What are the classes like?"

"So far the only thing we did was talk about what we wanted to learn. It was very open." Confusing too.

Claire shrugged. "First sessions of any class are usually like that."

Cassandra shrugged, "I've never been to school before."

Claire smiled faintly, sympathetic but unsure.

"This school is nice."

"It seems like it," she agreed. "I don't really have much to compare it to, though."

"Oh, it's nicer than normal schools," Claire assured her. "Hope you like it here."

"Me too," she nodded. Then, "Do you?"

Claire nodded, quietly pleased. "I do."

"Good," Cassandra grinned in approval.
