The Roof, Sunday night

Johnny had handwavily gone off island today to buy Savannah a birthday present, and the time alone was spent in much thought. Funny how a guy like him could be so reflective.  Sue would like it, Reed might be proud, but Ben would totally call him a dork.

Whatever. Ever since Homecoming and his dance with a certain someone, Johnny hadn't been able to think real clear. He should talk to Savannah, be open and honest... but damn that was going to be hard. And then hearing the radio and... yeah. He wasn't so sure just how much that dance meant and maybe he was just reading into it more than necessary.

Anyhow, he was on the roof, being reflective cause he could. And being a roof, it was totally open to anyone else who wanted to be on it.

Hoshi was perfectly comfortable in her room about 95% of the time. She was also proud of herself for surviving the homecoming dance without an attack of claustrophobia. But today she was feeling cramped wherever she went in the dorms. She finally emerged on the roof, gasping for breath, looking a little pale and praying that she wouldn't have a full-blown panic attack like the one she had at her grandfather's funeral.

"I will be when I can actually breathe," gasped Hoshi.

"Nothing. I just need space," said Hoshi, looking very shaky.

"No, nothing like that happened," said Hoshi, shutting her eyes. "It felt like the walls were closing in on me."

"Yes," said Hoshi. "I was so worried about making it through the homecoming dance and instead it hits today."

"Sometimes it helps to have a distraction," said Hoshi, opening her eyes. She was having an easier time breathing but still looked really shaky.

That was definitely distracting. "Oh my God, you're on fire!" said Hoshi.

"And that's not a problem?" asked Hoshi. The panicky feeling that was controlling her earlier had dissipated and she was looking a lot better.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"That is so weird," said Hoshi, staring in amazement.

"I bet it is," said Hoshi. "I can't do anything quite that useful, except for speaking a lot of different languages."

"Like I can get rid of a gangster by yelling at him in Russian? No, wait, it would work if he was in the Russian mafia," said Hoshi, thinking.

It was a lot easier to devote hours to studying when you were home-schooled and didn't have a choice.

"I feel better," she admitted.

Hoshi shrugged. "I was just in my room trying to write a letter to my parents when it hit," she said. "I'm not sure why."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I was trying to convince my mom and dad not to come for Parents Weekend," said Hoshi. "I'm a little worried that they may change their minds about sending me here."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"My parents were really strict, and they wouldn't even send me to a regular school. They were worried that ordinary teachers wouldn't push me hard enough academically. If they find out that Fandom is actually in the past for them, I think it would be back to home-schooling for me," said Hoshi, looking glum. "And God forbid they ever meet Professor Stinson."

"Like, tell them how well I'm doing in advanced calculus and that I've picked up five new languages already?" asked Hoshi. That was a lie. She only had two new languages since arriving in Fandom.

"Even better," said Hoshi. "I like the way you think."

Jenny wandered up to the roof to smoke, as one does.

And yes, she was still wearing her tiara, thank you very much.

Jenny eyed him for a long moment before saying, "Oh, yeah, I remember you. You said you'd call me and never did."

Jenny shook her head. "I'm pretty sure you didn't, but then you're a guy, so failure to call girls is probably part of your genetic makeup. These things happen."

Jenny folded her arms and looked doubtfully at Johnny. "As your little sister, I should probably be offended that you ditched me for your girlfriend."

Jenny rolled her eyes. "No, I don't want to kick your ass." Boys, really.
