Fourth floor common room, Friday evening

After being bit by gremlins and making an emergency stop at a janitor's closet that for some reason had matching costumes in their sizes, Jim, John, Gavin, and Karal made their way to the common room.

And then...

"Lollipop lollipop
Oh lolli lolli lolli
Lollipop
*weird finger-to-cheek popping noise*"

[OOC: They think they're a barbershop quartet. Come and get a free concert!]

Gavin cleared his throat a few times, testing out his vocal range and checking to make sure there were no frogs in his throat.

"And a one, and a two, and a..."

And then there was singing. It wasn't very good singing. But, with the other three boys doing background vocals for the first verse, it was singing nonetheless. The voices were lilting, somewhat melodic and there was hat swinging, oh yes.

"I said a hip hop the hippie
The hippie to the hip hip a hop and ya don't stop
A rock on baby bubba to the boogety bang
Bang the boogie to the boogety beat
Now what'chu hear is not a test I'm a rappin to the beat
It's just me the groove and my squad we gonna try to move your feet
See I am the doctor spoc and I'd like to say hello
A to the black to the white the red and the brown
The purple and yellow
Well, first I gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie
Say up jump the boogie to
Bang bang boogie let's rock you don't stop
Rock the rhythm that'll make your body rock
Now, so far you heard my voice a but I brought 2 friends along
And next on the mic is my man E come on E sing that song.

With a little nod of his head, Gavin stepped back into the line and did a little back and forth swaying with the rest of the quartet.

Karal stepped forward and lifted his hat off, holding it out to the side, waggling it back and forth. "Hello..."

Suddenly, Karal leapt forward, pointing out over the audience.

"It's astounding;
Time is fleeting;
Madness takes its toll.
But listen closely...

John stepped to the front with his hat against his chest with both hands.

He thumped the hat to his chest twice as one of the backups sang the bump bumps.

"Where it began, I can't begin to know when
But then I know it's growing strong,
Oh, wasn't the spring,
And spring became the summer,
Who'd have believed you'd come along?"

John stepped forward, sober and almost depressed looking. While the other boys sang harmonic backup, he took the lead, singing directly to Jim.

"Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind."

He placed his hat over his heart and bent down on one knee, looking up at Jim.

"So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain!"

He stood and sashayed gracelessly back into the line.

And the lights dimmed, spotlighting the four boys in the middle of the common room as a hush fell over the crowd.

Gavin stepped forward and then started to sing with the other boys humming in tune as backup.

"We were drawn from the weeds
We were brave like soldiers
Falling down under the pale moonlight
You were holding me
Like someone broken
And I couldn't tell you, but I'm telling you now"

And then he stepped back into the swaying, humming line.

Pam, still in search of an ANTM torrent, happened to wander into the fourth floor common room.

And stared.

"...oh my God. Oh, my God. Jim?"

She didn't wait for a response before taking a few pictures with her phone.

Molly was on her way down to talk to Karal when she heard the singing. Wondering what was up, she make a quick detour to peek in. She stopped dead in the doorway and stared. Without taking her eyes off of the quartet in case they decided to disappear, Molly made her way over to a couch and practically fell into a seat.

Sokka was there and laughing at them.

Also staring with raised eyebrows, trying to figure out if they were gremlin-bit or just doing it for the heck of it. I mean, Jim was there, so you never knew...

Seely wandered down to see what the noise was about.

Then started laughing. Loudly.

Jaina had heard the singing. Genetically incapable of not checking out something that might be a little off, she headed upstairs.

And promptly lost all possible words, not that she could say any with her jaw dropped like that. John, Karal and Gavin. Some days she loved this town.

Inara had come upstairs when she'd heard a type of music she'd never heard before, and was now stopped dead in the doorway of the common room, staring at Karal and Gavin and John and some boy she'd never met.

Naturally, Aravis wandered past.

And stopped. And stared, before quietly watching in utter fascination, memorizing every detail for future tauntings.

Hoshi could hear something going on in the common room, so she stopped in to look. And then looking turned into staring, then staring turned into gawking.

Anathema had been planning on reading. That plan was put on hold as she tried to remember how to breath again due to laughter.

Sulley came by, carrying a bucket (literally a bucket) of popcorn. He'd been looking for Karal, but then heard the singing and stopped in. It took him a moment to figure out what was going on (and even then, he didn't know the school had a barbershop quartet), then he decided to sit down, watch the concert and eat popcorn.

He may have hummed along quietly to some of the songs.

The singing was kind of hard to miss, even from one floor down. Sam came up to investigate, and then found himself staring. And then the laughing started, especially at Gavin and Karal. Surely, they would understand if he took some photos with his phone camera.

Johnny heard the noise and dropped by to investigate.

When he saw that it was a barbershop quartet, he found himself a comfy spot leaning against one of the walls of the common room, and nodded his head in time to the music. He hadn't known that the school had a barbershop quartet, but they were really good at it.

Naminé laughed. And began sketching. Because this was worth capturing.

"Good Lord." Evie stared, humming along a little bit, but blinking at their costumes. And the hat-swinging. And, well, everything.
