Cheerleading Demo - Gym - Early Saturday Afternoon

The gym was decked out in the school colors, and there was a big banner that said "WELCOME FRIENDS AND FAMILIES!" along with posters saying "GO GREMLINS!"

There were refreshments stations set up outside the gym handing out popcorn and sodas and as people entered they could pick up pennants or pompoms to wave.

"Right," Simon replied. "My sister wasn't quite clear on that subject."

"Your sister is a cheerleader?" Johnny asked, figuring this guy was family, visiting. "I'm Johnny Storm by the way," he extended his hand towards the guy.

"Simon Tam." He shook Johnny's hand. "River is my sister." He pointed her out among the cheerleaders.

"Ah," he smiled. "I know River. She's one of my friends. Do you, uh, do the whole I can read your mind too, thing?"

He chuckled, shaking his head. "She doesn't try to hide it, does she?"

"And it's hard to hide from her, as well," Johnny said. "My thoughts are easily read."

Simon sighed. "I think most people are. I am too, if it's any consolation."

Johnny chuckled. "It doesn't really bother me; keeps me from having to voice certain things that she already knows." Because seriously, it really was kind of cool.

Raising an eyebrow, Simon couldn't help smiling. "It's good to hear she has friends who feel that way."

"River's a cool girl; she has lots of friends," he said automatically, looking over at the cheerleaders. "How are you taking Fandom so far?"

His sister was a cool girl who had lots of friends, who didn't object to having their minds read. Simon nodded, looking a little confused. "I think this is a good place," he said, both in reply to the question and as a reflection on the comment about his sister.

"You look a little confused," Johnny said, giving him a slight grin.

Simon shook his head. "I'm still not used to this place," he replied.

Johnny laughed. "Me either, buddy, me either."

Simon let out a chuckle. Never, not even before the Academy, had River been described in a similar way. His sister had always been the genius, and then, the crazy one. Not the one with a lot of friends. He couldn't help laughing, and he met River's eyes while she was tossed in the air, and she smiled back.
