Seely had gotten up early for reasons that nothing to do with girlfriend-enforced temporary celibacy, and immediately gone down to the gym to work off the 'excess energy'.

He was in no way imagining any Princes of Archenland's faces on the heavy bag as he punched it.

"Oh!" That was certainly better. "Oh. I'm glad, then."

"I'm glad she liked you too."

"I mean, I could go get into an utterly ridiculous fight with her, since that seems to be how we do things now."

"But you won't because you're much smarter than me." Seely left off the bit where Caroline would probably kick Aravis's ass.

"Are you hurt?" she asked, almost as an afterthought.

"Not much?" Seely replied, since he at least had the good sense not to push his luck.

She nodded. "That thing I promised for tonight isn't happening now," she told him.

Seely's face fell.

"You shouldn't have gotten into a fight," she replied.

Oh, look, Seely was back to sulking.

Aravis raised her eyebrows. "Well, you shouldn't have."

"He started it."

Because sometimes, Seely was five.

"And he's not getting any of that either," Aravis said solemnly.

Oh my, what an interest shade of purple Seely was turning.

Aravis laughed. "It was a joke, calm down."

"I am calm." You could be calm and hyperventilating at the same time.

"No, you're not."

"Yes, I am!"

"You're not," Aravis said. "You should go put ice on your bruises."

"They don't hurt that much."

"But I'd like you to feel better."

"You could always kiss it better."

"No."

Seely pouted. "But that would make it feel better."

"So will ice," she said, raising her eyebrows. "Come on."
