Fourth Floor Common Room: Saturday evening

Karal was happy. Really, truly happy. He was back in Fandom, to stay, this time, and everything in his world was going well.

There was really nothing to be unhappy about! So, in minor celebration, he was participating in an uniquely Fandom activity: Pizza and television.

There were a number of pizzas, because he'd determined those were the rules if you brought pizza to a common room: you always brought enough to share, and Karal was sitting on the couch, slowly flipping through the channels as he tried to work out what everything was.

Altra was sprawled across the back of the couch, contributing snarky commentary. Luckily, only Karal could hear it, though anyone watching might wonder about his apparently random moments of laughter.

"A day's warning or so would be nice," she nodded. "Also, I think technically speaking, I think this means my twin brother's older than me."

"Glory, that's confusing! And it doesn't seem fair, somehow," he said, frowning. "You should have some sort of celebration."

"I don't think I really need one," Jaina said, thinking about it. "I wasn't planning on having anything for my birthday if I'd been home, either."

He nodded in understanding. "We don't have parties in Karse for birthdays the way they do here, which, honestly, makes me happy. But...would you object to a gift?" he asked, smiling hopefully, because he was having an idea. "Every Birthing Day should be marked with a gift of some kind."

"You really don't need to, but now I really am curious," she admitted with a little smile.

He grinned and jumped up. "Wait here," he told her and dashed out of the common room.

Altra lifted his head to watch him go. :I have no idea what he's doing.:

"Quickest shopping trip ever?" Jaina guessed.

Karal came running back into the common room and dropped back to sit on the couch. "It's not something new, but it is something that feels right to give to you," he said, and shyly held out the beaded leather pouch that held the scrying stone (http://store.higherheart.com/shopimages/products/normal/Palmstone-Hematite.jpg). "It no longer holds any magic, though."

She immediately recognized it, looking at him in surprise. "You don't want to keep this?" she asked.

"I have the memories of what it achieved," he said, shaking his head. "That is more than enough for me. I think it should be your Birthing Day gift." He hesitated, then added quickly, "If that's all right. You don't have to to have it!"

"No, it's..." She smiled, reaching to take the bag. "Thank you, Karal."

He carefully set in her hand, beaming with happiness. "Happy Birthing Day, Jaina."

"It's a good thing we're still hugging friends," she said. "Because now I need to take advantage of that."

Karal ducked his head, still smiling. "It would be churlish of me to say no, seeing as it is your birthday," he said, and held out his arms.

She moved over to hug him, saying, "You've normalized the weird. Thank you."

"I'm happy I could help," he laughed, and hugged her back.

Pulling away and still smiling, turning the pouch over in her hands, she asked, "So how are you? Still good, apparently?"

"It's obvious, isn't it?" he said, smiling sheepishly. "I think I'm still having trouble crediting that I get to stay, and it's hard not to be happy about, glory, about everything!"

"Good! You deserve it. It can be like your own celebration that lasts as long as you want it to," she said.

"That was sort of what the pizza and the television watching were," he admitted. "They are both very Fandom."

"It does seem to be traditional," she agreed. "What's next on the agenda? Ride this out for a while and a lot of sleep?"

"It doesn't sound very exciting does it?" He chuckled. "But yes. Monday is soon enough to start catching up on classes."

"Oh, nooo, you can't be thinking of classes already," she said. "On a weekend and everything."

"I can't help it! I missed all of mine last week, and opening the library," he said. "But at least I'm not going to worry about them until Monday?"

"That does help matters," she agreed. "Just don't go stressing yourself. I have a feeling you'll catch up without a problem."
