Second Floor Common Room - Monday Evening

The traditional finals coffee bar was set up in the second floor common room, complete with assorted goodies from J, GOB and various caffeinated beverages from the Perk.

Meg was sprawled across the couch with her eyes closed, a book resting over her stomach. If anyone asked, she was totally studying.

[Open!]

He uttered one word, "Genetic," and allowed the fireballs to grow in size, mainting and controlling them easily so no one had to fear him. His eyes moved from hers, back to his hand, watching as the flame traveled up his arm. Johnny was wearing just a t-shirt so he wasn't afraid of burning anything. To give Adah the full effect of what he could do, would mean to upset her and he wouldn't do that. He wasn't wearing his firesuit... enflaming his entire body would have him standing in the nude when he extinguished the flames.

...Genetic? Adah's eyebrows shifted, a slight frowning over her cup as she continued to watch as the flame crept up the Storm Across the Hallway's arm. Genetics brings him something like that, and it brought her half a brain, half a body. If she actually believed that there was a God, Adah would be feeling pretty pissed off at him right now. Other questions, then, built up in her head. Natural genetics? Or altered ones? Perhaps one of those different dimensions, different future things. How far into the future? Was this something of an evolution, perhaps? Instead of stealing fire, Prometheus finds that he can create it himself, not with sticks and stones like his grunting Neanderthal brothers but, by the looks of it, simply with the power of his mind...

And thus the Storm Across the Hallway was giving a new name.

And if he was Prometheus, what did that make her? Hephaestus, maybe, burned by his own forged and then robbed blindly from it.

Johnny knew she was lost in her own musings and didn't understand the slight frown as she continued to watch him. Did he know of the questions in her head, he would answer her easily. As it was, the fire dimmed and he extinguished it altogether, saying as he continued to look at her, "My whole body can burn with fire, and I can fly... at the speed of sound."

Adah plainly lowered her cup, finally wanting her expression to clearly be seen. One of admitted annoyance that perhaps he was doing what people like him (or who she assumed him to be) always seemed to take her silence for some sort of mental retardation. Scientifically, even if she wasn't seeing it with her own eyes, she could conceive of the fire thing easily enough. Flying at the claimed rate, however, was pushing her boundaries of believability a bit far. She liked sci-fi as well as the next square, but she liked her to be well-founded in fact. And the facts pointed to the fact that a normal human body could not possibly withstand that. Even if she saw it, like the fire, with her own eyes, she'd still remain doubtful until he produced for her full scientific documentation of exactly how much these genes of his had evolved.

"I'm serious," he said low, noting well her annoyance. "I can only fly when enflamed though. Just the way it is." Johnny's abilities were actually quite powerful; something he has not gotten to prove since coming to Fandom. Not that he wanted to really, but it would be nice to get use what he can do every now and then. Creating fireballs to toss at the ceiling was all right, but decidedly boring against the full amount of skill and power he had within him.

Adah's head lowered intently, her gaze not merely watching, but studying this Modern Prometheus. Something about the burning, then, clearly, must do something to his chemical make-up. Of course, that made the most sense. A body could survive fire, but not well, so there must be something, a burning of oxygen, the production of carbon, that allowed for it scientifically. A better make, improved genetics. Just which year was he from, anyway? Or was he even from here? The Eel, after all, wasn't; nor was River. When did her life become a late night matinée drive-thru movie? And why was she stuck being the boring character? You know, the one who probably ended up being eaten by the monster first...

Her eyes shifted slightly away for a moment, toward the door. Pity she didn't think to bring any of her notebooks when she felt like investigating the overly strong scent of coffee.

She was bored with him. That was his take and he sighed, leaning back in his chair and picking up his hot mug again. Fire was not always entertaining, he understood that. But flying was. Wasn't it? A shooting fire star across the night sky was something to see. Johnny had been told too many time to believe otherwise. Ah, well, Adah was bored and for some reason he couldn't really blame her. There were other people here with great magic abilities who he was sure topped him and the little show that he had just given her.

For someone so bored, Adah's eyes returned to the Prometheus as she went back to quietly sipping and watching. Watching particularly now, for the little things that no one noticed, signs to help support her building theories. Little things, that people took for granted. How he held himself, the way his muscles moved, what he let his eyes focus on, the planes of his face and the shake of his head, the proportion of his limbs to body.

Things most people didn't notice, things probably even he didn't notice.

She would be right; he didn't notice any of that. Johnny simply was. He finished off his coffee and set the empty cup aside and reached for the control to the TV. He turned it on but muted it instantly for the sake of those who needed the quiet to study. Flipping through channels, he soon came upon a dirt bike race on a random sports channel and settled back to watch, grinning as he did so. It made him totally miss Supercross and he vowed silently after the New Year, that he would enter another competition and compete.
