Third Floor Common Room; Tuesday Evening.

As volunteered, Turtle went up to set up the coffee cart for StuCo in the third floor common room for the evening. She prided herself in the excellent set-up for gross coffee from the Perk, lots of treats from J,GoB, all of them served on Westing Paper Products from...well, Turtle & Canary, of course. Once she was sure everything was perfect for people to come get as they stayed up studying for the remainder of their final, she settled on the couch and fired up the VCR.

What? Feminism was tomorrow. She had to catch up on some Bea Arthur stuff, so this was totally studying.

"Oh, yeah! I remember reporting on those last night. The vending machine ate my money scenario and then designing on a prompt, right?"

"Yes. I hacked the vending machine so it started giving out free food," said Hoshi with a smirk. Capitalism meant nothing to a girl from the future.

Turtle pouted just slightly. "I'm torn between being saddened by the disruption of the system or feeling that the people who own the machine deserve it for investing in faulty equipment..."

"It was just a hypothetical situation," Hoshi reminded her. "In reality, I'd be making my own lunch instead of relying on a machine."

"That's a very practical outlook," Turtle said, smiling with approval.

"Are you going home after finals or staying around for the holidays?" asked Hoshi.

"Going home," Turtle said with a nod. "The holidays are important to my parents, so they'd really like to see me."

She paused, biting her lip and wrinkling her nose. "So long as I don't bring Jeff with me this time."

Hoshi snickered. "That would have been interesting," she said.

"That's, uh, one word for it," Turtle said, shaking her head lightly. Just when she thought she'd gotten Thanksgiving out of her head, she had to just go ahead and bring it back up again. "Um, so, I know you're going home, yeah? 'Cause there were notes that you were packing."

"Yeah, I can't get out of it," said Hoshi, frowning slightly. "I'm leaving on Saturday."

"Not looking forward to it?" Turtle's head tilted. She was actually kind of excited to see everyone again, which was weird, because, usually, she didn't.

"My family doesn't really understand me. We're not that close at all," explained Hoshi. "My parents keep going on and on about how I'm this amazing genius and my brothers resent it. At least here in Fandom, I feel like I'm normal."

Turtle's eyes went slightly wide.

"Holy crap, it's like my family but in reverse. I'm the failure, and Angela's the perfect child."

"Really? Wow," said Hoshi. "Did your parents insist on home-schooling your sister because she was too perfect to mix with the ordinary kids?"

"Uh, no," Turtle said, "but my mother did make a huge deal about Angela wanting to go to college. She wasn't going to go, either, but then she finally came around to her senses, thank God."

"My mother wants me to become a concert pianist," said Hoshi. "I like music, but the idea of staying on Earth and doing something ordinary when people from my time are exploring the stars just doesn't appeal to me."

"...That is kind of a boring option, yeah. I mean, aren't you, like, good at a whole bunch of stuff? And out of all that, she picks a pianist? I think your mother and my mother should get together and have a Fail Party together."

"There are times that I think my mother just doesn't get it. My father is a little bit better, at least," said Hoshi. "I'd say that your mother should come over and meet my mother, but I'm not exactly sure how I'm getting home."

"I'm taking the plane," Turtle nodded, like it was general knowledge, because, hey, it was how she always got home.

"All I know is that my ride is meeting me at the causeway, so who knows?" said Hoshi. "I never noticed anything on the shuttle ride here. It wasn't until I got to the picnic that someone told me what year it was."

"I think Fandom jsut kind of works like that. You don't really realize anything happened when it does."
