Third Floor Common Room [evening]

Evey had found her room with little difficulty, and after tossing her bag towards one of the (thank heaven) two beds, she'd memorized where she'd be returning and wandered out to see what she might find.

And naturally, the there was the common room on her floor, with a television (granted, much older than she was accustomed to, but it would do.) And where there was a television, there was news, and ways to catch up with the fact that she was twenty years in the past.

As a result, Evey was curled up on the couch, quietly flipping through channels and trying to acquaint herself with a world that seemed somewhat different from her history lessons. Perhaps her memory was just a touch fuzzy.

"New person!"

A.J. might be doing a lot of bouncing today. He couldn't help it. There was just this...energy about New Person Day.

"Hi. I'm A.J." He gave the girl watching TV a bright smile before glancing in the TV's direction. He turned a little red with realization that she might have actually been, you know, watching something. "Uh, I'm not interrupting anything, or anything, am I?"

She hadn't been, thoroughly distracted as soon as he bounced in. "No, you're not," she assured him with a smile. "Hello, A.J. I'm Evey. You're not interrupting anything important -- I've just found I'm twenty years in the past and I like to be informed about the world. Whatever year it might be. And that includes...." She glanced at the television. "Infomercials about remote light switches. Huh."

Seregil was exploring the dorms and was drawn by the sound of voices. His attention when he came in was immediately drawn to the box showing people talking. "That is amazing."

She glanced up. "It's an advert for bleach," she replied, eyeing him.

A.J. did a poor job of biting down a lopsided grin at that. "This craaaaazy decade," he said, holding up his hands and shaking them a little, and then went to plop comfortably down on the couch. "What haven't they thought of. Y'kno, in my time, the big thing were these lights that went on and off when you clapped." He put his hands together for two, brief claps. "Inventive. I'm from ten years back, y'see, so, welcome, fellow time traveler."

Trying not to grin too much at that good old TV-fascination, A.J. waved to the other guy and introduced himself with a light, friendly sort of smile. "Hey, other new kid. I'm A.J. Nice to meet you."

"We have something similar," she said, smiling softly and trying not to instinctively flinch at the clapping. "It happens often, then, this time travel? I keep hearing that it does, and I...did not know about this. Any of it."

"I haven't seen this type of magic before," he said, staring at it. "There's messenger bubbles, but..."

"Seregil i Korit Solun Meringill Bokthersa," Seregil said, tearing his eyes from the box to look at the other boy. "Just call me Seregil."

"It does happen often," A.J. said with a sympathetic look on his face. "And, you know, a lot of people don't know about it, either. I didn't. I actually kind of wonder if anyone did..."

"Oh, it's not magic," she explained, and felt bizarre doing so. "It's electricity."

A.J. blinked. That was...quite a name. Especially when talking to a boy whose name was two freaking letters.

"Uhhh, cool. Seregil it is, then. First time seeing a TV, I take it?"

"The brochure was very different," she said, nodding. "There's no magic, or any of that at home for me. Or aliens. That I'm aware of," she added, because if there was anything V had taught her, it was to never rule out any possibilities because they sounded crazy.

"You got a brochure?" A.J. gaped a little, his voice bleeding with envy. "Man. My parents just handed me a suitcase and told me to ship out."

"Well, I didn't, but Finch showed me one when he told me I was being sent to the States," she amended. "It looked very nice. Surprisingly so, considering we're in America. Should've been my first clue."

A.J. arched an eyebrow. "It's still pretty nice, you know." His expression was brimming on a slight pout. "America's not all that bad..."

He decided to add a cautious, "...now," at the end of that because he had no idea what kind of place she was coming from and didn't exactly want to start any trouble.

She nodded. "Now," she agreed. "Bit different at home. I won't alarm you, since I can't tell from the news yet whether it looks like this United States will go the same way."

After checking out her room and having no problem finding it, Alex wandered a bit. She found herself in the common room and noticed that it was all ready occupied.

More people to meet. She liked the idea of meeting new people. You never knew who you'd come across.

"Electricity?" Seregil echoed, looking interested.

Amber was on her way up to the fourth floor, but she was checking out each floor, and each common room. This one had people in in. While shy, she still walked in and declared to the room at large, "Hi!"

Evey glanced up, gave the newcomer a shy smile, and flicked her gaze back to the television. She wouldn't greet her if the other girl didn't wish to be disturbed.

"Is that what it's called?" Seregil asked, his gaze going back to it.

Alex hadn't wanted to disturb the other girl, but seeing the smile, she decided to be friendly.

"Hi," she waved slightly, not wanting to seem rude.
