Gym - Sunday Morning - [01-13-08]

Liir was at the gym, as he'd told Ino he'd be.

He didn't touch anything, or start his stretches; she'd said that she wanted to check over his form on a few things and he figured the stretches were part of it. As such, he merely sat on the ground waiting, devouring Millie's book with a faint smile on his face.

Lana was up and out early again for a run. Afterwards she made her way to the gym to work the bag and do some weight training. She smiled cheerfully when she saw Liir. "Hey, Liir! How's it going?"

He tilted his head one way, then the other.

"Good," he answered finally. "A little odd, but... good."

He realized he was being rude.

"And you?"

She shrugged. "My boyfriend had PMS yesterday, which was pretty weird, but overall, I'm good."

"Good, but odd? What do you feel odd about?"

He didn't ask about the PMS, since he had no mental reference for what exactly it was, but he did attempt to answer her question.

"Things have been very good," he said after a moment, "and for me, that's odd."

...it was true enough.

"Then I hope things continue to be odd for you in that way," Lana said with a smile as she sat herself down on one of the mats. She'd stretched before she ran, but wanted to just make sure she was still good before she started any heavy bag work.

"So... good book?"

"I don't know if it's good, but I like it," he admitted. He couldn't really be much of a judge, having only read bad romance novels before this. "It was a gift."

He opened his bag just enough to show the spine of the other book he had there.

"As was this one."

"With books, it's all about if you like it or not," Lana said with a smile, stretching out her lower back. "So who gave you the books?"

"This was a gift from my new employer, Millie, down at the Book Haven," he explained, tapping the spine. Then he gestured to the book in the bag with his chin. "That's a gift from one of my professors, Professor Ambrose. It's a book on Ozian history."

He gave a faint smile.

"Considering he's from many many years in my future, that should be interesting."

"You work for Millie?" Lana asked, eyes brightening. "I do as well. Isn't she a dear?"

She smiled at the books. "Ozian history from your future, huh? Definitely should be interesting."

"I've got the Friday shift," he said. "And yes, she's very kind."

He pulled the cloth of his shirt between thumb and forefinger for her to see. His outfit on the whole was now, well... whole. It still fit badly and was far too loose for him (an unfortunate effect of having lost a great deal of weight in the last few months) and was poorly made, but he didn't look like a vagabond.

"She fixed my clothes for me when we met."

Lana nodded. "Magically, I'd guess?"

"Exactly," he acknowledged. "Though with my wages, I should be able to buy some new clothes."

Yes, he's proud of this fact.

"It always feels good to be able to buy things with your own money," Lana agreed. "Kind of that first step towards being independent."

Something she'd always wanted and worked toward.

"It's not as if I have anyone else's money to fall back on."

Liir didn't have pride so much as he was keenly aware that outside of this place, no one really cared if he lived or died.

Lana nodded, solemnly. "I'm not far off from that. I could ask my former guardian for money, but I wouldn't like the strings that came with it."

"The Witch never had money," he said with a shake of his head. "And she's dead now, besides."

He kept saying it, made a point to say it, because it was easier to say it each time. And it had to be easy to say because it was a fact, something he couldn't change. Being upset about it was as ridiculous as being upset that his eyes were green.

"What--" and he swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat, "what day do you work at the bookshop?"

Oh, he broke her heart sometimes and she just wanted to hug him. "Tuesdays, probably" she answered. "I used to work on Thursdays, but I have classes on Thursdays now."

"I only have one class that day," he admitted, shaking his head just a little to clear the strange blockage in his throat. He swallowed again.

"Are you waiting for Ino as well?" he asked suddenly.

"For Ino?" she asked, surprised. "No, I'm just here to work out. I study with her on Wednesday afternoons. I just went for a run and now I'm going to knock the bag around a little and do some weights. Are you here for her?"

He nodded.

"She's coming here to work with me, since we hadn't figured out when I should come and this was when she had time."

Lana nodded. "Well, I won't get in your way," she said with a smile. "I'll just be over there with the weights."

"I'm sure, when she gets here, that you won't be," he said with a faint smile of his own.

"No," Lana said with a smile. "Ino has a wonderful way of taking over a room. That must be a nice talent to have."

"That depends on why."

The Witch had had a similar talent.
