Gym - Sunday Morning - [01-13-08]

Liir was at the gym, as he'd told Ino he'd be.

He didn't touch anything, or start his stretches; she'd said that she wanted to check over his form on a few things and he figured the stretches were part of it. As such, he merely sat on the ground waiting, devouring Millie's book with a faint smile on his face.

Lana was up and out early again for a run. Afterwards she made her way to the gym to work the bag and do some weight training. She smiled cheerfully when she saw Liir. "Hey, Liir! How's it going?"

He tilted his head one way, then the other.

"Good," he answered finally. "A little odd, but... good."

He realized he was being rude.

"And you?"

She shrugged. "My boyfriend had PMS yesterday, which was pretty weird, but overall, I'm good."

"Good, but odd? What do you feel odd about?"

He didn't ask about the PMS, since he had no mental reference for what exactly it was, but he did attempt to answer her question.

"Things have been very good," he said after a moment, "and for me, that's odd."

...it was true enough.

"Then I hope things continue to be odd for you in that way," Lana said with a smile as she sat herself down on one of the mats. She'd stretched before she ran, but wanted to just make sure she was still good before she started any heavy bag work.

"So... good book?"

"I don't know if it's good, but I like it," he admitted. He couldn't really be much of a judge, having only read bad romance novels before this. "It was a gift."

He opened his bag just enough to show the spine of the other book he had there.

"As was this one."

"With books, it's all about if you like it or not," Lana said with a smile, stretching out her lower back. "So who gave you the books?"

"This was a gift from my new employer, Millie, down at the Book Haven," he explained, tapping the spine. Then he gestured to the book in the bag with his chin. "That's a gift from one of my professors, Professor Ambrose. It's a book on Ozian history."

He gave a faint smile.

"Considering he's from many many years in my future, that should be interesting."

"You work for Millie?" Lana asked, eyes brightening. "I do as well. Isn't she a dear?"

She smiled at the books. "Ozian history from your future, huh? Definitely should be interesting."

Ino entered the gym at about the time she'd told Liir she'd be there and grinned to see him already there. "Morning!" She greeted him.

He stood, stuffed his book into his bag, and dusted himself off.

"Hello."

"Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long," Ino said, "you ready for your lesson?"

He nodded almost too fast before giving a faint, abashed smile.

"I didn't stretch. I figured I should wait."

She grinned at him. "That's perfect," Ino told him, "I'm sure Lana showed you right, but it's just sensical for me to check."

He nudged his bag with the books aside before stepping forward to get a little more space.

"Should I start now?"

Ino nodded, putting her hands on her hips. "Go ahead," she said, "Do them all the way through and I'll tell you at the end if I saw something I didn't like."

If Lana had any quirks to how she did the stretches, Liir repeated them exactly; he wasn't one for introducing creativity in the midst of learning something.

After attempting to drown himself taking a very, very long shower, Luke trotted down to the gym to give his body the workout it hadn't gotten when he'd spent an entire day curled up in his pajamas.

He gave the unfamiliar face a bright smile and headed towards the punching bag.

Liir looked a little sweaty and worn but he spent a minute watching Luke walk to the punching bag.

"Hello," he said after that minute.

"Did you want to use this?" Luke asked, stepping back immediately. "I can wait."

He shook his head.

"I was just going to watch you."

He doesn't mean to sound creepy. Mostly he's just curious about the various ways people would do things. He's seen Lana, Ino was instructing him, and now he was curious to see if Luke did things other ways.

Luke blinked. "Okay," he said as he began hitting the bag. "I don't think I'm very interesting, though."

Luke was wrong. He was very, very good.

He was certainly interesting. There was, of course, the stylistic aspect, which was observed keenly. Where the power from each strike was drawn, how the fist was shaped, where the hand struck the leather. But there was also the basics of male movement, the angles and lines, the shift and rock of hair. There was nothing in the least inappropriate in his observations; only a study of another form.

Both were intensely educational for someone who'd grown up around mostly women.

Luke had gotten used to Yoda's intense scrutiny, so being observed closely wasn't all that unusual for him.

He began adding kicks into routine, then more force. The bag began rocking in a slightly alarming way.

"Have you ever knocked it off?" he asked. He's never been in the zone, at least not while punching and kicking something, so he isn't aware of what he might be breaking.
