Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

The order of the evening was bacon, mushroom, and class-assignment eggbaby omelets.

Reno was making them in the third-floor common room. He figured, the farther down the floors he went, the better a chance he had of letting the smell waft up to floors higher up to make eggbaby parents regret not eating their assignments, too.

There was really only one eggbaby going into the omelet, of course, because letting everyone else run around like idiots taking care of chicken eggs was too damn amusing to interrupt, but he had brought along another couple dozen actual eggs, and there was plenty of late-night omelet to go around.

All things considered, children happened to taste pretty good.

"Is that our young one?" Ron asked as he entered the CR and saw Reno. "If so I'd like it with ham and cheese please. Chop. Chop."

Reno raised an eyebrow and looked over his shoulder at Ron.

"Chop chop?" He made a bit of a snorting sound. "You kidding me? Make your own damn omelet."

Anyone else, and he might share. Maybe.

"Listen, woman," Ron replied. "It's your fault we're in this mess. Now own up to your responsibility and make me breakfast."

"Call me 'woman' again, princess, and I'll make you breakfast, alright." Reno pulled an egg from the carton and lobbed it at Ron, nice and annoyed already.

"Oh, man, please tell me you made enough to share," Rikku said, following her nose into the common room. "I should not be hungry, 'cause it's late? But ohman. Something smells awesome."

Ron tried to duck but only ended up getting egg in his hair. "Hey! Uncalled for!" Ron grumbled as he pulled out an eggshell and flung it back at Reno. "Obviously you need to work on your feminine side."

"Hey Rikku," Ron said with a wave. "How do you like your babies: scrambled or poached?"

"Babies?" she giggled. "Fry 'em on up. I smelled omelettes, cut me in on some of that. Are we chickens today or something?"

"My feminine side begins and ends with the ponytail," Reno snarled with a roll of his eyes before carefully selecting the most aerodynamic egg for the next egg-launch. "What's your excuse?"

"You'll have to talk to the little missus," Ron said jabbing a thumb at Reno. "He's a bit testy today. No chickens. We've just been given an assignment to care for eggs and we're eating our young."

"Damn straight I made enough to share. Twenty-five eggs had better be enough to share, yo." Reno grinned at Rikku. "Unless you have a huge appetite."

"You ..." Rikku gaped. "That's awful! Are you serious!? You can't do that!"

Ron was able to duck this one. Call it experience from growing up with the twins. "Me? Sorry, mate. I've got no feminine side. That's why you're cooking and I'm waiting to be fed."

Rikku grinned. "So you just ... had a craving and had to wander down here? Not complaining, mind. Anything that gets me omelettes is all good. I smell bacon. There's bacon, right?"

"Well it's not like they have much of a future," Ron deadpanned. "Reno here seems to be seriously lacking in the maternal department and I'm hopeless when it comes to discipline."

"These are assignment eggs?" Rikku facepalmed. "That's so wrong. Those are, like, fake kids! What are you gonna say? 'Well, we killed ours and it was yummy!' That's cannibalism!"

"You're gonna have to sit and watch me eat, then," came the reply. "I cook for people who don't faint while soliciting sex. Cramps my style otherwise, you know?"

Reno ever so casually flipped the omelet.

"There's bacon," Reno confirmed. "And mushrooms. And whatever the hell you can steal from the fridge. Anything good in there?"

He cracked another egg into the pan.

"Isn't so much a craving for omelet as it is a craving to prove how freakin' stupid the last class assignment was in Art of Cool, yoto."

"I didn't faint!" Ron grumbled. "I tripped and hit my head!"

Jenny peered into the third floor common room and asked Reno, "You can cook?"

"Well that about sums it up," Ron replied. "Though I'll probably add it was a dumb assignment but in the end very tasty."

"Apparently." Into the omelet went the bacon. "I can do damn near anything if it can be considered an act of rebellion," Reno decided.

"Hmmm." Rikku pulled the fridge open and considered. "Couple of cheeses, some ham, oooh, some peppers. No tomatoes, but there's some ketchup. That might be fun, but it'd probably end up kinda gross."

She carried over the bits that looked promising. "You're taking a class on being cool?" Yes, she was snickering.

This point was emphasized with another airborne egg.

When Ron saw Jenny enter the CR he dived behind the couch.

Maybe she wouldn't notice and he could make a quick exit.
