withoutverona: (smoking so beautiful)

Roof, Saturday Evening

Romeo didn't feel like walking all the way into town to sit on the beach, not when there was a perfectly good roof to sit on just steps from his dorm. He had his notebook, a volume of Neil Gaiman short stories, and a travel mug full of hot chocolate. There was even an extra bag of marshmallows, so he could dunk them and eat them one by one.

But more than reading or writing or even eating, he was just leaning back on his hands, staring out at the lights of town and the canopy of stars above it.

[OOC: Open like a roof without barbed wire around it. And I am omgbored logging off and heading to bed.]

Jack popped up on to the roof, which was better than doing laps of stairs, up and down and up again. He gave the guy on the roof a wave.

"Right. Hello," he said back. Funny talking. "Am I bothering you? If you're not looking for interruptions, I can take a hike," he said, sticking his thumb back at the stairwell.

"Right. You know, all this time, and I still can't get my hands on my own gun. Borrow, every time. I ask you, is that fair?" Not that Jack was used to going off on a stranger.

"Can't get one at the gun shop. Bad business if you ask me."

Romeo didn't ask, Jack offered. Romeo might be spot on regarding firearms as first conversational choice.

"Name's Jack Burton. Good to see another Gun Club face."

"No, but it makes me feel about as useful as a snowmobile in Texas when we're at the gun range and I don't have a piece," he said.

Jack shook. "Jack Burton. I'm in 208 with Robin the Frog."

"I thought about that, but...then I'd be going to the Girls and Gun club just for the girls. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Just...wanted the total package." He shrugged.

"Not sure. We're on different schedules, don't see him that often. Can't miss him, though. Lil green guy. He's good peoples." Jack wasn't quite sure if Muppets were sensitive like that.

"Green. He's a frog. Hops. And sings. Which, I grant you," he said in a conspiratorial tone, "is not very frog-like, but hey. Lil guy works his flippers off."

He leaned back, taking on a more conversational tone. "Yep, there are some lookers in that club."

Someone else came up a few minutes later. He looked surprise to see anyone up there, but he gave Romeo a small, polite smile before settling not too far from him. It was like his knock, like most of his mannerisms: as if to say that he would like to be acknowledged and interacted with but always with the option to ignore him without being impolite.

"So far no," he answered immediately, not particularly keen on the topic since his talk with Professor Ambrose.

Professor Ambrose.

Glitch.

Monday couldn't come soon enough.

"Good evening, Romeo."

"I don't know what it is," he admitted, wanting to be polite. But he couldn't keep it up.

"My weekend has been-" amazing... before I fell asleep again "wonderful."

It seemed the most appropriate, considering how loaded that term could be for an Ozian.

"And yours?"

"I spent Friday evening and afternoon with Andrew," he said with a small smile. How amazing it was! Just the thought of the other boy could lift him out of his funk. "And most of the day today. We did nearly nothing other than prepare a meal or two.

"It was perfect."

"I have training with Ino," he admitted, "and then the Host Club. But I'm hoping to see him after the--"

Oh Nameless Name, the Host Club.

Teddy. Teddy would be there tomorrow.

...but Tamaki would be so hurt if he didn't show up.

He shook his head to make it go Away for the moment and smiled at Romeo.

"He's brilliant, though."

"It seems rather strange," he had to agree there, "but it just sounded like an opportunity to give others a few ours of pleasurable company."

And it will make me meet people, get used to them. It will let me learn manners the way I should have growing up.
