withoutverona: (smoking so beautiful)

Roof, Saturday Evening

Romeo didn't feel like walking all the way into town to sit on the beach, not when there was a perfectly good roof to sit on just steps from his dorm. He had his notebook, a volume of Neil Gaiman short stories, and a travel mug full of hot chocolate. There was even an extra bag of marshmallows, so he could dunk them and eat them one by one.

But more than reading or writing or even eating, he was just leaning back on his hands, staring out at the lights of town and the canopy of stars above it.

[OOC: Open like a roof without barbed wire around it. And I am omgbored logging off and heading to bed.]

"No, but it makes me feel about as useful as a snowmobile in Texas when we're at the gun range and I don't have a piece," he said.

Jack shook. "Jack Burton. I'm in 208 with Robin the Frog."

"I thought about that, but...then I'd be going to the Girls and Gun club just for the girls. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Just...wanted the total package." He shrugged.

"Not sure. We're on different schedules, don't see him that often. Can't miss him, though. Lil green guy. He's good peoples." Jack wasn't quite sure if Muppets were sensitive like that.

"Green. He's a frog. Hops. And sings. Which, I grant you," he said in a conspiratorial tone, "is not very frog-like, but hey. Lil guy works his flippers off."

He leaned back, taking on a more conversational tone. "Yep, there are some lookers in that club."

"I'm still working on it," he said with a nod. Romeo should be glad Jack's not the hearty backslap kinda guy. "Not seen too many wacky things, but they're here. The old-timers...I keep thinking they're pulling my leg, and then something happens."

Jack counted back on his fingers. "About five months. I haven't been here long at all, but it's pretty long. Most of the time I bounce around."

Jack wasn't talking about the weird things he's had happen to him.

"My dad's a trucker, so he's been all over. Takes me with him during the summer, so I've been around most of the continental US. Gotta tell you, diners have the best fried foods. The best." Jack nodded for emphasis. "So...I'm used to being away from a place for a good long time. Don't really get homesick if you don't really have a home, right?"

"Yeah, mine too. Good talking to you," he said, unclueful that it wasn't necessarily a good talk on both sides. "Hey, I'll see you at the club, then!" he said, walking towards the door.
