Fourth floor common room, late Sunday morning

It had been a while since he'd done the open brunch thing and with things finally feeling like they were getting back to something resembling normal for him, it felt like a good time to do it again.

So here Dean was in the kitchen of the common room, dividing his attention from the food cooking and the book Karal had given him to read. Who said he couldn't multitask?

Lana smelled food and wandered up to the next floor. "Hey, Dean," she said a little drowsily.

"Hey Lana," Dean said, looking up from his book.

"Good book?" she asked.

Dean snickered a little, given it was a book on religion. "Interesting at least."

"Be careful," she warned teasingly, "You're starting to look like me - or your brother - reading as you cook."

Meg was still bouncy from finding out about Stanford and it definitely showed when she came into the common room.

"Hey!" she said. "What are you cooking and can I have some?"

"Bacon, eggs and frozen waffles, and absolutely," Dean told her, smiling at her. "Someone's perky this morning."

"I've got good reason to be perky," she said with a grin. "I got into Stanford."

"Yeah?" Dean grinned, putting his book down and moving closer so he can slide his arms around her waist. "Always knew I was dating a smart girl."

"Why thank you," Meg said, smiling up at him. "Isabel got into UNLV too. I made her open up my acceptance letter for me."

Things were definitely getting a lot closer to normal, and that included Sam coming upstairs to see if Dean was cooking anything. The smells coming from the common room almost answered that for him, and he grinned when he spotted his brother. "Hey. What are you making?" he asked.

"Food," Dean replied. He paused. "There's waffles."

That just made Sam perk up more. "Really? Do you need any help?"

"You can help me eat it," Dean said, with a grin.

Evey'd risen later than usual, blaming her lethargy on finally relaxing a bit. But when she did get up, she found that she was starving, and as such, she'd learned that the common rooms usually had better food.

When she couldn't find what she wanted in her own, she ventured upstairs, where she was met with the inviting smells of food.

"Hello," she said, peeking in and hoping she could nick something to eat.

"Hey," Dean said, smiling at the unfamiliar person.

"Is that to share?" she asked, gesturing to the food. "It's far less hazardous for me to just eat what someone else made than try to concoct something myself, really, if you need a reason to. It would be a service to the dorms in general."

Dean chuckled. "It's for sharing," he assured her. "You sound like my brother."

Not that Inara had been going up and down the halls, trying to find someone who looked like they might respond to the name Evey, but the Common Room was her next stop.

It was possible she was a little bit concerned, yes. Plus, it smelled like there was food here.

"Evey?"

Hey, it was worth a shot.

"Yes?" Evey glanced up at the sound of her name, looking around.

Inara tried to give Evey a covert, if professional assessment. Pretty, but not in a flashy way. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Inara, a friend of Karal's."

Michael wandered in, raising a hand to wave.

"Hey."

"Hey Michael," Dean greeted him with a wave of his spatula. "Breakfast?"
