Fourth floor common room, late Sunday morning

It had been a while since he'd done the open brunch thing and with things finally feeling like they were getting back to something resembling normal for him, it felt like a good time to do it again.

So here Dean was in the kitchen of the common room, dividing his attention from the food cooking and the book Karal had given him to read. Who said he couldn't multitask?

"Then you know he doesn't count, and he's not what I'm talking about," Sam said.

"Yeah, well, he's done more for us than any god," Dean said. "Until now at least."

"I know Dad's done a lot," Sam said. "But he can't do everything. That's where faith and praying come in, at least for me."

"Yeah, but every time I asked god for anything, it never happened," Dean said. "Till Vkandis at least."

Sam thought about pointing out that that was probably because Dean hadn't believed in God, but he didn't think that was an argument he wanted to get into at the moment. "Maybe you just needed to find the right god," he said.

"Maybe," Dean allowed. "He does seem to be a pretty good fit, doesn't He? I mean, God of Fire who Banishes Demons..."

"Sounds like someone who's right up your alley on all counts," Sam said.

"We'll see. Karal wants me to read all this stuff before going any further."

"That's a good idea. You should know as much as possible before making any kind of decision," Sam said. "And if it gets you to read, that's a bonus."

"Hey, I read!" Dean protested.

"Not actual books, you don't," Sam replied. "At least, not often enough."

"I read books. I may not be surgically attached to one like some people I can name, but that doesn't mean I don't read."

"Hey, I always put down whatever I'm reading when you stop by the library. That means I'm not surgically attached."

"I dunno Sammy. You don't actually move away from the books so..."

"I'll start putting the books at the other end of the desk if that'll help."

"Hey, no skin off my nose if you're surgically attached to books," Dean told him.

"There's nothing wrong with liking to read," Sam replied around a mouthful of waffle.

"I never said there was. You're the one implying I don't do it though, so just pointing out that you might not be a typical person when it comes to reading either."

"It's possible that I fall to the abnormal side of the reader spectrum," Sam admitted. "I really am glad you're looking into this though, all joking aside."

"Yeah, well, don't expect me to suddenly change or anything. I'm still gonna be me. If Vkandis doesn't want that, then..."

"Why wouldn't he?" Sam said. "You're a strong, loyal warrior. I might not know much about Vkandis, but I can't see why he'd turn someone like that away."

"You're biased," Dean told him.

"So's Karal, I imagine. You've got both of us on your side in this."

Dean smiled a little. "That's nothing small."

"Neither are you. No matter how short you are," Sam teased. "Vkandis will want you, you'll see."
