The Oscars pre-game was on, Ferris had food spread out on the table and even though he didn't know who half of these people were, he was commenting on the fashion. "Really, why would anyone wear a dress that intentionally makes their ass look big?"

"Sounds to me like you know the recipe pretty well," Reno observed.

"I might have made it a time or two," Romeo acknowledged. "Though it sounds like you are an expert."

"I like to consider myself a bit of a gourmet," Reno agreed with a nod. "The recipe itself is pretty easy. It's appreciatin' it to its full extent that gets tricky, yo. There's an art to it."

"The art is in being able to enjoy oneself fully, but not so fast that you..." And then Romeo's voice trailed off, because Dojima had walked in and she got most of his attention. "Um. The company is important as well, of course."

Reno followed Romeo's gaze to Dojima and flashed a grin. "Of course it is. You got your eye on that one, huh?"

Romeo could only nod at first, a little pathetically. "She was my date for the dance, and we have seen each other since," he said. "Am I so obvious?"

"Kinda like a puppy," Reno observed, grinning around his now stuck-out tongue. "But hey, if it works for you two, then who'm I to judge. Ain't like I don't got weird girl-related things goin' on, too."

"I always feel happy and hopeful when with her, so that is a good sign," Romeo said. Hopefully, if still with a bit of the puppy in his manner. "Riku mentioned you were seeing each other, and figuring it out as you went."

"Lot of figuring to be done, really. I got no idea what I'm doin' with this whole ... relationship. Thing." Reno gave a shrug of his shoulders and a shake of his head. "I figure it'll be worth it, if I manage to not screw it up. Looks like you got a better idea of what you're doin'. Doji's probably in for less of a headache with you than Rikku's in for with me, yo."

Romeo snorted. "I would tell you not to wager on that, but that would mean telling you some things I ought to tell her first," he said. "I am good at courtship, at least when the lady reciprocates. I've just no idea what comes next."

"The one thing I can tell you about what comes next, man, is that there ain't a man alive who has a bit of a clue about what comes next." Reno laughed a bit. "We're totally at their mercy now. Best we can hope for is that they're not gonna chew us up an' spit us out, yo."

"Or laugh," Romeo shuddered. "Or tell us they never cared and have sworn chastity regardless."

He rubbed his forehead. "The laughing would be worst."

"I dunno, chastity's pretty high up there, too," Reno smirked. "Close second, I'm thinkin', if laughing's the worst they can do."

"The chastity one was very hard to hear," Romeo said. "But at least she was taking me seriously, though there was no hope in my suit. Laughing is just ... nothing."

"Oh." Pause. Pause. Consider. "You ever get laughed at?"

Probably wasn't any of Reno's business. But, shit, he'd like to know if that sort of thing happened often. Was hard to get a feel for it when everything else was nothing to begin with.

Romeo shook his head. "I saw it happen, though."

He might have been lying, and cleverly asked a question to distract from that. "I have humiliated myself enough -- have you never been tortured for love?"

Reno gave his head a shake.

"Never had the time or the need for it before," he said, not entirely lying. "This last week-and-some with Rikku's about as far as my experience goes with lo-" Whoa. That was not a Reno-friendly word, there. "That kinda thing."

"That might be easier," Romeo said philosophically. "To have it all new, no ghosts hanging over you as comparisons."

"The ghosts might not be comparisons, but that doesn't mean they aren't there," Reno gave a bit of a shrug of his shoulders. "Doesn't matter either way, everyone's got their ghosts. They just give way to different kinda of paranoia when they decide they're gonna hang there, is all."

Romeo shivered. "The world is too full of ghosts, perhaps," he finally said. "And on that cheerful note, I will go talk to my lady Dojima. I shall see you soon?"

"Yeah, we'll see," Reno replied with a nod and a bit of an uneasy smirk. "I'll try to be around, yo. You go woo the fair damsel, or whatever it is you do."
