Outside the dorms: Saturday afternoon

Karal and Trenor had been all over the island, and now they were back where they'd started. Karal was laughing as they cantered across the grass and jumped a tipped over garbage bin.

He'd got to spend all day riding, and there were exciting places to explore and there was no one to get him in trouble for anything. This was just the best day ever.

The tilt of Trenor's ears indicated he wasn't so sure about that, but he was bearing it, and Karal, with good humour.

"Ooooh," Gavin said when he wandered outside and saw Trenor. "Big animal!"

Karal pulled Trenor to a sliding stop near Gavin, and yes, he was totally showing off. "It's Trenor!" he said, and slid off. "He's my horse."

"He's yours?" Gavin looked suitably awed. "Hi Trenor! You're big!"

Luke was on a Mission. He was going to Daddy's shuttle, fly to Dagobah and learn how to be the Bestest Jedi ever!

Oooh. Pony.

After a wee pit stop.

"Hi, Karal!" he said.

Okay, yelled. Luke wasn't so great with voice modulation yet.

Karal grinned proudly. "He's all mine and I don't have to share him with anyone." Trenor all but rolled his eyes and stretched his nose towards Gavin. "You can have a ride on him if you want."

Trenor flattened his ears at the noise and shook his head. Karal just grinned at Luke and patted Trenor's neck. "Hi!" he called back. "You should be quieter around horses, or you could scare them."

"I can?" Gavin's eyes lit up and he looked at Trenor and Karal. "Will he let me?"

"Lukey!" Gavin exclaimed, waving. "Whatcha doing?"

"Of course! He's the best horse in the whole world." Karal looked around. "You can climb up on that," he pointed at a picnic table, "and then you can get on him really easily and I can lead you around."

The best horse in the whole world didn't look all that happy about this.

"I'm going to Dagobah," Luke replied, nodding. "Daddy said I could."

Daddy had not been consulted.

Gavin scurried up onto the picnic table and carefully got on Trenor. His daddy had taught him to be gentle around things he had to rely on or they wouldn't be gentle back and did he really want to end up a stain in Tatooine's sand?'

"I'm on!"

Gavin looked down.

"It's hiiiiiiiiigh!"

"Can I come?" Gavin asked. "I've only been to Tatooine and I dun wanna go back there!"

Trenor sighed the sigh of the incredibly put upon and craned his neck around to peer at Gavin.

Karal grinned up at him. "It is! But Trenor's only small for a horse. The plough horses are almost twice as big as he is, but they're not as nice." He poked Gavin's leg. "You have to hold onto his mane so you don't fall off."

Luke wrinkled up his nose. "Too hot and sandy," he said. "You can come! There are lots of puddles to jump in!"

"Sorry," Luke whispered in a voice that could be heard for a block. "I don't wanna scare him. He's tall and could smush me!"

"I never fall off horses!"

Oh, Gavin.

"I have 'xcellent balance! Mommy says so!"

He did hold onto the mane though.

Dawn was wandering around carrying a big stick and bottle of water, hunting for vampires.

What? She wasn't allowed out after dark.

Stupid Buffy.

Her prime pout stopped the minute she spotted Trenor. "Ooooh, horsie."

"Yay!" Gavin clapped his hands in delight. "We can play there! Games!"

"You won't fall off! Horses are easy to ride," Karal assured him, and clucked to Trenor, starting lead him around the grass at a quick walk.

Well, Karal was walking quickly, nearly trotting. Trenor was plodding along slowly and very carefully.

Trenor's ears shot forward and Karal laughed. "You don't have to be that quiet! And Trenor would never ever smush anyone. He's the best horse in the whole world!" Karal led him closer to Luke. "See? You can pat him and you can ride him and he's really well trained."

After stopping for water for the Super Soaker, John and Jaina had gone looking for a convoy being threatened by Space Vampires, and found people and a horse instead. "There are people," she announced helpfully.

"Trenor," Karal corrected, all puffed out with pride as he grinned at Dawn and led Trenor closer. "He's my horse."

Karal frowned at her in puzzlement, then laughed. "Trenor's not people, he's a horse!"

"But you're people, duh!" John said, waving his water gun at Karal. "Wanna be a convoy?"
