Cheerleading Practice, The Gym, after classes - 4/8

Music was going, mats were out, healthy food and drinks were situated on a table at the sideline. And Annette was chilling out, just waiting for everyone to show up and get on with their practicing and meetings and whatever else needed tending too.

"Hey."

A.J. smiled a little bit underneath his blushing, glancing over at Annette. "Didn't...mean to interrupt or anything."

"Nah, you didn't. I can manage a little break," she told him, her eyes bright.

"How are you?"

"M'goooood," A.J. said, grinning a little more, head ducked but peeking over at her. His elbows here on his knees, fingers knotting lightly in themselves as his hands hung between his legs. "How about you? S'okay, isn't it? Be coming and watching the practice a little?"

Annette nodded. "I was... hoping you might. I mean," she glanced over at the cheerleaders. "They're great. All of them."

A.J. made an idle glance up to follow Annette's, although, really...yeah. Like he even really noticed the other cheerleaders. Except maybe the big guy, because he was kind of hard not to notice. "Yeah," he said, noncommittally. "You guys seem pretty good." Not that he knew anything about cheerleading except for the fact that girls looked cute doing it, but the more important part, anyway, was that she was hoping he'd stop by. She'd thought of it, too, so he wasn't just being a total nerd by wanting to stop by.

"Thanks," she said, looking back at him, at the way he was clasping his hands together. "We've a fashion show coming up; I would like to personally invite you. When the details become more... detailed I guess, I can let you know. If you'd like."

Shifting a little, not knowing whether or not he would appreciate it, Annette reached over to lightly brush her fingers against his, hoping maybe he just might hold her hand for a second or two.

"Personally invite me?" A.J. asked, turning a little pink at the shifting of Annette's fingers toward his, but he disentangled his so that they could retangle, lightly, in hers as she offered them, and he smiled a bit. "Does that mean I get to feel like a special guest and stuff?"

Her's were a little cold, but she worked to thread them through his. Grinning, she nodded. "Uh-huh. I promise to make you feel very special. Maybe I can reserve you a seat up front and center. I think I might get to model," she said, blushing. "And it's going to be so much fun!"

A.J. laughed a little. "I don't need to feel that special," he said, ducking his head slightly against his grin; he focused a little on their hands, their fingers, shifting them playfully together. "And it would be cool to see you model. You guys doing it as, like, a fundraiser, or something, or just for fun? And, I mean, are all of you going to model, you think? Including the guys?"

"Yep, going to sell tickets and everything. Brooke?" Annette pointed her out to him, in case he didn't know who she was. "We'll be modeling her fashion line so I don't know yet what we'll be wearing. And yeah, everyone that wants to can model, I think. Even Chad," she said with a grin, indicating the really big guy.

"Sounds pretty cool," A.J. had to admit, his head tilting accordingly to try to pick out the people Annette was trying to indicate. "I didn't realize we had a fashion designer in our midsts." Naturally, he was a little intrigued, because, really, fashion was just another form, another medium of art, which also reminded him of the flyer he'd seen earlier.

"Oh, hey, you doing anything tomorrow?"

"Yeah, I'm thinking it will be good times," she said, smoothing her thumb across his hand.

"Tomorrow? Um, no, other than class." And she knew he was working at the diner. "Why?"

"Well, there's that gallery opening," A.J. explained, breaking out a crooked grin. "You know I'm going to just have to go to that. And, if you're not busy, maybe you could go with me."

Her eyes widened, and she smiled. "I would love to go with you, A.J."

A date? This was a date, right? Annette bounced. Just a small, tiny bounce that he probably, maybe, didn't notice.

He noticed, and he thought the bounce was cute, although he was a little confused over why it would be there at all. Not that he was complaining; it just always mystified him to think anyone would get excited over the things he would get excited over, especially cute girls. Cute girls on cheerleading squads, no less, even if him and Annette had been through so much already.

"Good. I'll swing by your room after I get a chance to get ready after work, then."

Annette didn't get asked out often and because he was the one to ask her out, then yeah, she felt almost... giddy.

"That sounds really great, A.J.," she said. "I'll be ready." And Annette knew these types of affairs were elequent, so she could dress up, and getting to dress up was always nice.

"Good," A.J. smiled at her a little bit; really, if he thought about it, he realized that her reaction was rather like what Beauty's would have been if he'd have asked her. An element of surprise and happiness at being chosen, as if he wasn't already with her. Although, technically, he wasn't really with Annette, but there'd been Sunday night...

He turned a little pink suddenly, and smiled lightly again. "I should...probably let you get back to practicing..."

If he was turning pink for the reason she was thinking, where her mind suddenly went at seeing it, then she probably should get back to cheerleading before she said something she shouldn't where anyone could overhear. Especially those pesky squirrels.

Instead she opted for, "Did you sleep good the other night?" Which, okay, wasn't exactly sublte was it?

"You mean, uh, Sunday?" A.J. asked. He'd asked just so that he didn't end up embarrassing himself, but then realized, as soon as he said it, that the question itself embarrassed him quite a great deal, especially with how quickly he asked it.

"Yeah, I meant Sunday..." she replied, fingers still entwined with his.

The blush intensified, but, at the same time, A.J. relaxed a little over the fact that he didn't have to feel like a tool for thinking that's what she meant. He bit his lip a moment as he looked over at her, and then nodded, slowly, with a soft smile. "Uh-huh," he answered. "Slept great. Except for one thing."

"One thing?" she raised her brows, worried now that she'd done something wrong. Oh no, did she snore? Steal the covers? Be a bed hog? She was a bed hog, she knew it.

Her cheeks turned red and she looked down.

That response was just way too predictable. A.J. grinned. "Yeah. That whole...morning thing, and you had to go to work and I had to go to class. I could have done without that part."

She glanced back up, surprised. If they weren't here, she'd throw her arms around his neck and squeeze tight. "Maybe next time the morning after will be more memorable," she dared to say in a small voice.

"Hey," A.J. said with a crooked smile, leaning his head in towards Annette. "I never said it wasn't memorable."
