Blissfully unaware there was anything at all odd about today, Romeo padded into the common room and found some cold cereal to eat while he watched a morning talk show.

They were making over erotic dancers, and Romeo decided the "on stage" looks were much better than the "daytime" looks. It was purely an aesthetic decision, of course -- at least the on stage looks didn't involve floral cardigans.

"For the record?" Mel declared as she entered the common room. "Peeing standing up is way overrated."

Romeo was used to odd greetings in Fandom, but that announcement from someone he had, as far as he knew, never spoken to before was still more than the usual amount of unexpected.

"Good day to you too," he answered. "I've never thought to rate the experience, myself."

"Hey, Romeo," Mel grumbled as he went over kitchen area to make coffee. "Your girlfriend a guy too or am I the only rutting person here who's turned?"

So this odd fellow knew him.

And ... well, only one person said "rutting."

"Mel?" Romeo boggled, giving his friend the once-over. "Zounds, you are changed."

His hands went to his chest, just to make sure things hadn't worked the other way, before he answered the question. "I've not seen Yurika yet. Teyla, though, was herself."

"Well if you have any issues with kissing a guy, you might want to find out," Mel grumbled as he shifted his pants around his waist. "Jesu, this is just stange."

Romeo thought Yurika might have more issues with being kissed as a boy than he would with kissing one, but that was beside the point, given he was utterly astonished.

"Does this happen often?" he asked. "You waking up like - " he waved an arm vaguely at Mel. " - that?"

"Not for me, personally. No," Mel said with a dismissive gesture, "Last year all the guys turned into girls for a day. Maybe this is just payback. Hopefully this is just for a day..."

"A day would seem to me more than long enough to be in the wrong body," Romeo said, sounding alarmed. "I do hope it wears off for you."

He was still worrying that his own body might turn traitor on him. He shifted in his seat rather oddly, trying to make sure ... things were still there.

"If you want to check yourself for missing parts," Mel said with a smirk. "I can turn the other way."

Romeo blushed scarlet at being discovered. "I think I'm good," he muttered. "You'll tell me if I start sprouting breasts?"

"Hell, I'll feel you up just so you can have the experience," Mel teased.

"I would offer to return the favor," Romeo replied, "but I still owe you a sonnet for your girl form, and I'd hate to find I needed to write one to you as a male as well."

He paused. "Besides, I don't feel like fighting Sokka again, and I fear he'd force the issue if I touched you."

"Let's hold off on the sonnet to my male bits," Mel snarked. "I'm hoping they go away by tomorrow and I'll be back to normal. And if you were feeling me up I think Sokka would be the least of your worries."

"He is rather behind you and Yurika on the list of concerns," Romeo nodded.

Curious, he asked, "How different does it feel?"

"I don't know how you guys walk around with these things," Mel said shifting slightly. "And I keep forgetting my lack of breasts. Other than the standing up thing, I haven't done a lot of experimentation."

"I don't know how you walk around without them," Romeo said. "It must be confusing, the whole change."

"Last week I was seven years old and today I'm a guy," Mel replied. "And last month I was in a completely different century and living in a brothel. As far as I'm concerned this is just another one of those rutting days and I'm going to make the best of the experience. Got any suggestions on what I should do first?"

"Other than the obvious?" Romeo asked, with a quick hand gesture. "And you ended up in a brothel too? How was yours?"

he closed his eyes. "I know it's been said, but this place is strange."

River had woken up as a boy this morning. Stranger things had happened in Fandom, and it didn't stop her - him - from dancing. In fact, her body being a little different today, it made it more interesting.

He spun into the common room, the imaginary music loud in his mind.

The spinning boy got a raised eyebrow to go with Romeo's half-wave. He didn't look familiar, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. "Good day."

River gave a smile in reply. "Dance with me?"

There was something familiar about this boy, but Romeo couldn't put his finger on it. "I'm flattered," he said, "but I fear I'd be a poor partner for another man. Why do you ask?"

"Actually I didn't get too involved there. Willow was running the books and I was the bouncer," Mel said in amusement. "And as for my current condition, maybe we should start off with the more subtle experiences first."

River laughed. Romeo was a friend, and he clearly recognise her - him. Still, River couldn't help it. He put on a look of surprise, then stopped, and added an expression of hurt. "Why not?"

"I just slept in one, when I ran out of money for a hotel," Romeo overshared. "The girls were nice enough, though."

He wouldn't have been much for the subtle if he'd woken up as a girl, but that didn't seem worth sharing with Mel. "Subtle experiences," he repeated, drawing a blank. The Slayer thing meant Mel had had a lot of the ones he would have thought of for another girl, like fighting or walking down a dark street unafraid. "Go to the beach," he finally suggested, a bit weakly. "The weather's not the best for it, but it may be your one chance to go topless and not draw a crowd."
