The Camp Gym; Monday Morning.

It had been a bit of an effort, but Cal forced himself out of bed early that morning to get back on track of things. Well wrapped and with his loosely fitting clothes, he did a bit of stretching and then headed over to the little gym enclosure, spotting out some weights and hoping to get a really good set and workout in before he had to even start worrying about his workshop later on.

He didn't know exactly how he felt working out in a public spot like this, but maybe it would be early enough that the place didn't get much traffic. Maybe he should move his workouts to late at night. No one would workout at night, but then he lost the feeling he got throughout the day of having known he'd done the work and could feel out whether it was helping to make his body seem less...what he didn't want it to seem.

Cal considered this with the steady lifts of his weights before pointing out, "I don't know how my cabinmates would feel about that."

With another kick to the bag, she pointed out, "It's only two weeks, right? Once a week means they only have to put up with it twice. And it serves as further motivation."

"Well, I'm hoping to get in here a bit more than once a week," Cal admitted. "But you do have a point. And, from there, it's only my roommate, and he already thinks I hate him, so this would only help with the illusion, I'm sure."

She raised an eyebrow, looking over her shoulder again once her fist had connected with the bag. "Why does he think that?" Yes she was nosy.

"I don't think he understands sarcasm," Cal said after thinking of the best way to put it. "At all. Or irony, or a joke. And I've been admittedly too amused to explain it to him quite yet..."

"Dare I ask who your roommate is?" Because really, she might have to take that sarcasm thing into consideration before ever speaking to him.

"Alex Drake," Cal disclosed with only a fleeting, passing feeling of reluctance and guilt. "Good guy. A little odd, but, I mean, this whole place is like that."

"Yeah, he has to be new," said Jaina, trying to recall the name. "And are you sure you want to say this place is only a little odd?"

"Very sure," Cal said with a determined pump. "If I keep saying it, maybe then I'll start believing it."

And, hey, it made his life before he started coming here almost seem normal that way.

Fairly distracted from her workout but not minding, she said, "I'm really hoping you've been told about how weird it really gets, because weetiny invasions are pretty simple."

"I almost don't want to say anything either way," Cal responded, shaking his head against the bench a little. "I mean, every single time I list off what I've been warned, someone goes and one-ups the last person with something else."

"I should keep my experiences to myself then," Jaina said. "At least it's never boring here. There's a bright side."

"That should be your guys' motto or something, I'm feeling," Cal grinned. He gave one last lift before giving a little groan as he set the weights back into place. He rolled up carefully, reaching for a towel for the sweat making his hair cling to his head. "I happen to kind of like boring. I think it's highly underrated."

"You'll appreciate it much more after you turn into an animal of some sort," she promised.

"Yup, see?" Cal sighed, shaking his head ruefully from side to side. "One-up. Turn into? Because, you know, being invaded by them isn't enough, we've got to turn into them now?"

"Ooh, sorry," said Jaina, but she was trying not to smile. "I would have thought someone covered that already. It's sort of basic. It's never happened to me, but it has to a few people I know."

"And how long have you been here, exactly?" Cal asked with a quirk of his eyebrow. "If it's never happened to you yet, then there's still hope of avoiding it."

"A full year now," she said, and wow did that feel weird to say. "And all right, there was one time it happened but it was for like a minute, so I don't count it."

"One time?" Cal said, sounding absolutely scandalized that she would so carelessly glance over that one time. "I'm doomed! But I can let it slide if you tell me what it was you turned into."

She made a face, hating telling this story, but if it wasn't bad enough for John to mock her, then it couldn't really be a big deal. "I was turned into a newt in detention. They changed me back right away."

"A newt?"

"Yeah. You know, one of those little lizard things?" she said, trying not to facepalm.

"Uh-huh," Cal nodded his head in recognition. "That had to be....interesting."

"Embarrassing," Jaina admitted. "Though I think it did mean I finished detention early."

"What's so embarrassing about it," Cal ventured to ask, head slightly tilted, "if it's something that eventually seems to happen to everyone?"
