Virgo Campfire, Monday evening

Dean had spent most of the day just hanging out, with a side trip to the library to make sure his geek of a brother remembered to eat lunch. Now that it was dusk, he was taking advantage of the camping and had started a fire in the cabin's firepit. He had marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate, yes, but he also had weiners and hot dog buns. In other words a full meal that can be cooked on sticks over flames.

The basics sometimes were the best.

[ooc: open like an open thing. now with campfire food to share!]

"Oh, that sounds delightful," Alice grinned. "Do we have those? I know I saw marshmallows and some crackers lying about."

She had only been herself a week, and most of that had been spent eating gray, tasteless asylum food. She was going to be very fat at this rate, and she would be terribly happy and round, at that.

"I think Dean's got everything for s'mores, yeah," Meg said, looking around the campfire. "Oh, I'm Meg by the way."

"Pleased to make your acquaintance," Alice said, there, ha, she did still have some semblance of manners, "and I'm Alice. I stopped in to steal some food from Dean, as I'm to be his sibling now. The school assignments and so on."

"You're Dean's little sister? You got lucky there. Dean's a great older sibling," Meg said. "I'm his girlfriend."

"He's a very nice brother thus far," she smiled. "I haven't ... any other family, so it was very kind of Fandom to assign me more. Although I fear I'm taking the terminology a bit more literally than I should. How long have you and he been a couple?"

"You're supposed to be close to your big brother, fake or not," Meg said, thinking of her relationship with Bridge. She felt kind of bad for the girl for not having any family. "Dean and I have been dating for oh...almost eight months now, I guess."

"Congratulations," she smiled. "I wish you both the best. Have you any younger siblings, yourself? How do they go about deciding who goes to whom? Other than pulling names from a hat, which would seem very inconvenient if one was to be on holiday for that week."

"Thanks," Meg said, smiling brightly. "I've got two real little sisters back in California and one fake little brother here, Ferris. He's just graduated."

"I don't know how they choose it," Meg said. "I don't think your hat idea would be very far from the truth though."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't believe I've met Ferris," Alice said, hoping to step neatly around the topic of sisters. "Are you from the past, yourself? Or a different planet entirely? So many people here have such intriguing backgrounds, I'd no idea a place like this existed. Then again, I suppose in my time, it didn't."

"I'm not from anywhere interesting. Just California in the year 2006," Meg admitted. "What about you? Where and when are you from?"

"Oxford, England, 1873," she said, shaking her head. "This world, I believe, though I expected to cross an ocean coming to Virginia. Though I'm told the island is vacationing in Greece, which explains that. I can't fault it for that, Greece is lovely this time of year. More islands should go vacationing. Perhaps they do, and it's only that we don't see them."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow, 1873," Meg murmured. That was way, way far away. "It seems like you're taking everything in stride. A lot of new people would be a lot more freaked out about being in Greece when they're supposed to be in Virginia."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," Alice confessed, "I didn't exactly apply here. The letter showed up saying I'd been accepted, and I'd never heard of such a place. Therefore I decided it was to be an adventure. Once you realize you're on an adventure, things like changing size or falling down rabbit-holes or switching Virginia for Greece are all second-nature. It makes the whole ordeal less troublesome when you remember that."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Meg thought about that for a second and decided that she was right. "Sounds like you'll fit right in here."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Alice laughed. "Thank you. I certainly hope so."
