Little Dipper Campfire [evening]

Kaylee...was not the best cook. But! Given what she'd been able to scrounge up, sweet-wise, she was doing just fine, thank you. She'd managed to locate a fair amount of candy and fresh fruit, and while her attempts to roast things over the fire weren't going very well (gummi bears, it turned out, were kinda melty), she was determined to at least try everything.

[open, as these things are!]

"Very melty," he observed as he took a seat. "Is it supposed to be melty?"

"Melty might be good," he said, trying to reassure her. "I like things melty. Ice cream and milkshakes and chocolate are really good if they're melty."

"We could put it in a cup and get a straw and invent a drink?" Ned proposed.

"Not if you drink it fast," Ned said after a moment to think about it. "Keep it close to the fire and it'll stay melty."

"I have mittens!" Ned said. "Gloves. I mean gloves. Not mittens."

They were mittens.

"...nothing," he said after a moment. "My dad used to call the mittens. I thought gloves would be better."

"They are?" Ned asked, frowning. "Uh. I don't know. I could ask around though. Maybe this place attracts gloves?"

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not wearing gloves," he said, pulling his hands out of his pockets and holding them up. "See, no gloves on these hands."

Though, he wondered if they would make touching easier.

Wait.

"New boss?"

"Congratulations," Ned said, smiling. "Want some advice?"

Ned had no real advice. Ned was going to try and be funny.

He leaned a little closer, looking around as if he was going to deliver some top secret advice.

"If you melt things there, don't put them in a cup," he told her as seriously as he could. "They won't fit."

"Really big cup," he agreed. "Bigger than me?"

"Not...really," he said, taking a moment to look down at himself. "I'm pretty average."
