Little Dipper Campfire [evening]

Kaylee...was not the best cook. But! Given what she'd been able to scrounge up, sweet-wise, she was doing just fine, thank you. She'd managed to locate a fair amount of candy and fresh fruit, and while her attempts to roast things over the fire weren't going very well (gummi bears, it turned out, were kinda melty), she was determined to at least try everything.

"I mean, you can get it in the core," she said thoughtfully. "It's just harder for those of us who're from farther out. You're from this time, then?"

"Close, but not exactly. When I left home it was 2002. So I've missed the last six years," Lois said. That had been a shock when she figured it out. "Not too much has changed."

"Beats five hundred," she said lightly. "Did you know you were comin' to the future?"

"Nope. Definitely don't think my dad knew either," Lois said. "What about you? You know you were coming to the past?"

Kaylee shook her head. "Just that I was comin' to Earth-That-Was. Which, I guess, is Earth-That-Is now."

"This school has a weird sense of humor," Lois said, chuckling a little.

Kaylee nodded in agreement. "Or somethin' like that, yeah."

"It's not all bad though," she said. "Those tiny tortoises that were here over the weekend were kind of cute."

"And tiny!" she agreed, holding her hands up in an approximation of their size. "We don't got those at home, for sure."

"They're not too prominent where I'm from either," Lois said, smirking. "Definitely not talking ones, anyways."
