Little Dipper Campfire [evening]

Okay, so Kaylee was learning her way around the whole campfire thing, now that the rain had let up for a little bit. Tonight, she had equipped herself with marshmallows and sticks, as well as graham crackers and chocolate.

She was, perhaps, a little overly proud of herself for managing a real Earth thing without help from anyone.

Not that she'd really successfully made a s'more yet. She kept burning her marshmallows.

"Are you going to cook it and everything, or is that my job?" she grinned, taking a seat on a log.

"You don't want me to," Kaylee replied ominously. "I can't get 'em right."

She had to ask. "How do you get them wrong?" she wondered.

"They catch fire," she told her.

Jaina tried not to laugh. "I think that means you need to take them out sooner."

"But then they don't get as toasty as I want," she frowned.

"Okay, let's work through the marshmallow conundrum. Do you like them after the fire's put out?"

She nodded. "But it's a matter of principle, you know? They taste burny, and I know they shouldn't, so I wanna learn to do 'em right."

"Have you tried timing it? And pulling it out a second faster?" Jaina may have been putting too much thought into this.

"...ooh." Kaylee had not, no. "But is the timing constant? I mean, ain't every fire different?"

"I'm thinking practice with one fire, and then adjust it for the next. Like if you know you're in a hotter or cooler spot, you can try to get a spot like it in the next campfire."

She paused. "I've roasted about four marshmallows in my whole life, I'm just thinking out loud, by the way."

"I've burned about seventy billion," she pointed out. "You clearly do it better."

"I think I luck out," she said, and added, "or give up too easily."
