Little Dipper Campfire, Sunday Afternoon

Hinata... was being daring.

This wasn’t her campfire but, during one of the sunny breaks, she wandered carefully over to it and got a good blaze going before settling down on a log and wondering if anyone would try to get rid of her.

Well, she supposed, she’d just have to find out.

And there were marshmallows as a peace offering if anyone was upset by her nerve.

It wasn't Johnny's campfire either, but whatever. He was just wandering, checking things out as one does and it wasn't hard to notice the girl sitting by herself.

Johnny remembered her from the welcome picnic. "Hey, how's it going?" he said by way of greeting. "Mind if I join you?"

Her head jerked up, and she smiled. At least he was wearing a shirt this time? That did make it easier. "A-ano, if you w-want to. And I'm f-fine, thank you. Y-you?"

Definitely a shirt. Smiling, he sat down on a log and motioned to her marshmallows. "Roasting are you? And I'm not sure if we got around to name exchanging, did we? I've met quite a few new people so sorry if I don't remember. I'm Johnny Storm."

She flushed a bit, and offered him the bag if he wanted to take a few. "T-they're a b-bribe, if s-someone doesn't like me by t-this campfire." Marshmallows made things better, clearly. "A-and I don't think we did. I'm Hinata, it is n-nice to meet you again."

Johnny grabbed a couple. "Thanks," he told her and chuckled at her bribery. "I don't think anyone's gonna care. Last summer when I first got here, everyone sort of just mingled at everyone elses campfire. It's totally cool." He popped a marshmallow in his mouth.

"Nice to meet you, Hinata."

She smiled a bit more. "A-ano, but it's better to b-be over-prepared than under, and t-though everyone h-has been very nice I thought i-it'd be a good idea. J-just on the c-chance."

Noticing her speech impediment, Johnny wondered if it was due to her being a nervous-y type person, or... she just seriously had a speech impediment. Not like he was going to ask.

"So how you liking Fandom so far? It's treating you fair, yeah?"

It was just a nervous habit. And she was terribly grateful that he wasn't bringing it up. It was always so embarrassing to have to admit to that sort of thing.

"It's v-very different," Hinata admitted, "but I t-think I'm enjoying it. H-have you been here long?"

"It kind of grows on you, Hinata," he replied. "Things can be weird, that's a certainty, but I like it and everyone else I know does too. I've been here since the beginning of last summer and I'm a senior this next term. What about you?"

"S-sophomore," Hinata said, figuring that he already knew for sure just how new she was, "a-at least that's what I w-was told. We d-don't have grades l-like that back home."

Yeah, that's what he meant; just what grade she was in. Johnny at times, wasn't too specific. "And where is home exactly?"

Hinata was starting to pick up on that. It didn't really bother her.

"K-Konohagakure, it's a village in the F-Fire Country," she said, then smiled, "Ino-san s-said home is most l-like this world's Feudal Japan b-but with radio and TV."

"Yeah, not going to try to pronounce that," he said with a grin. "You know Ino, uh? I have to tell you, I don't know anything about Japan. I just recently learned how to speak French."

"Ino-san and I w-were classmates since we w-were five," she offered, nibbling on a marshmallow. "A-and, from w-what I understand, French i-is more u-useful considering where Fandom i-is right now."

"That's cool. Coming here and knowing someone already," Johnny replied. "Yeah, but I learned it before the island ever moved. Haven't actually gone anywhere to see just how effective my French actually is. I wasn't exactly studious."

That got a giggle out of her. "M-most of the g-guys I know a-aren't that studious."

"Hey now, if it has to do with flying or sports, I'm there," he laughed lightly. And actually when it came to science, Johnny was exceptionally bright. He just lacked pretty bad in the common sense department.

Holding up his finger, Johnny shoved a marshmallow on it and lit up his hand, roasting his own.

He might have been showing off. Okay, he probably was.

Hinata nearly dropped her marshmallow, surprised and trying not to show it. Father would disapprove of her being caught so off guard. "H-how do you do t-that? I-It doesn't hurt y-you?"

"Nah, it just comes natural. Just the chemistry of my body, you know?" He refrained from saying 'superhero', but only barely.

"Kind of just this thing I can do." He ate his marshmallow and burned the stickiness off before he extinguished himself.

Her eyebrows drew together as she thought about that. "L-like a bloodlimit?"

"A bloodlimit? You're going to have to be specific there, Hinata."

"A-at home, certain... talents r-run in families. We c-call them b-bloodlimits."

"Ah, no then. I'm that only one that has this certain ability. My sister, Sue now, she can go invicible and produce force-fields that protect," he said, then shook his head. "We were born perfectly normal, however. Just... in space we encountered a cosmic storm and it changed our bodies chemistry."

...

"...in s-space? Cosmic s-storm?"

"Right. I'm a pilot and... this would take forever to explain but where I'm from? I'm part of a team of four, and we're known as the Fantastic Four. I'm a celebrity, actually. A superhero."

There, okay, he said it. But he was totally not bragging. Seriously.
