3rd Floor Common Room: Sunday night [6-8-08]

Lana had gotten a tad too much sun yesterday so she'd spent most of today in her room. However, now she was feeling the need to get out a little, so she'd made a batch of popcorn and was curled up on the couch hoping to find something interesting to watch. Several of the tiny little monkeys were curled up with her. They were surprisingly good company.

That got a laugh. "True enough. How've you been Chad?" Ino tugged her hair as she realized that it had been... quite... awhile since she'd seen him. Ooops.

Chad shrugged; for the cat and the monkeys, the world shifted. One monkey nearly fell from the great height, but saved himself with a last minute clinging and the very monkey-like ability to climb back up. "Been okay," he said. "Can't really complain." Or, rather, he could, but he wouldn't. "How about you?"

Ino shrugged. "Been better," she admitted. "Since this hasn't been the best summer overall, but hey whatever. I'm in a good mood right now though and that's what counts the most."

Chad gave a small nod. "I won't ask, then," he said, "what's wrong. Want you to keep a good mood."

He was definitely going to agree with her regarding the fact that it hasn't exactly been the best summer, though.

He got a cheerfully wrinkled nose for that. "Excellent. Yesterday wasn't bad though, either. I got detention for doing nothing wrong again. But it turned out to be fun so, yeah, not complaining." A beat. "Though, if I had to pay for showers? Then I'd probably be complaining about the bill for that, yeah."

Chad's head tilted. "Pay for showers? Messy detention?"

"There was rope climbing in pairs, and Ella and I wound up landing in the mud," she explained. "And the mud got totally everywhere, even in my hair." Which clearly was an awful thing. "So... showers."

Chad nodded a little. "I hate when it gets in your hair."

It was...impossible to tell if he was serious or not, but, for the record, he was.

Ino... considered him for a moment, then decided, based on all evidence that Chad was literally one of the nicest people around Fandom that he was being serious.

"I know," she nodded. "Such a total pain to get out. And I'm sure I looked ridiculous with it all muddy."

Especially since Ino had...so much hair. Still...

"Aw, I bet you looked cute." Picturing Ino all covered in mud definitely seemed to fit the bill, anyway.

That got a blink.

Seriously?

"Cute?" Ino asked incredulously.

....

Uh-oh.

"Uh, yeah," Chad said, ducking his head a little as he rubbed his neck. "You know. Little...mud splotches on your face and stuff."

He shrugged, much to the dismay of his little menagerie.

"Cute."

...

...

"... I'd like to think that I look cuter without the mud," Ino said finally, not sure what the answer to that was supposed to be.

"Uhhh, 'course you do," Chad said, with a firm nod. "The mud would just, uh, switch it up a little..."

Chad was certainly getting a great deal of incredulous-ness from Ino tonight. "...do you think I need to switch it up more?"

Chad was not equipped to handle a situation like this. Or, really, girls in general.

"No, you don't," he said. "I just...you know...little smudges...it's cute...and..."

His shoulders slumped; cat and monkeys barely managed to stay on board.

Ino felt, really, sorta bad at the shoulder slumping thing.

"I guess I can get smudgy if you'd like pictures or something if you seriously think that it'd be cute..."

Yeah. She was still pretty dubious about this whole thing.

"Don't need pictures," Chad said. "I just think...you know. Ask other people if you don't believe me."

"I'm fairly sure you're not, you know, lying," Ino said, "I'm just not so much with the getting it."

Chad considered for a moment how he could put this into perspective for Ino.

"Okay," he finally said after a moment. "Who's someone you think is cute?"

She had to pick just one?

Ino considered that.

"...Michael." Well, he was an ex. Obviously she'd found him rather more than cute really.

"Okay," Chad nodded. "Now, picture Michael. Then picture Michael with a smudge of mud on his nose."

"See?"

It made perfect sense to Chad, really, only he wasn't picturing Michael. He wasn't sure he even knew a Michael.

...

"...I'd tell him he needed to wash his face?" A smudge on the nose? Yeah.

Chad blinked at Ino.

And then shook his head.

He wondered if Ino really understood what 'cute' was.

"Nevermind."

Cute was small, fluffy, and adorable. Not a smudge on his face.

"Though," she said thoughtfully, "it might be rather attractive if it wasn't a smudge, more like... streaks. Or something."
