Second Floor Common Room [evening]

She'd been forewarned by Peter (and with Willow around, she was even less surprised) that the technology would be much advanced in comparison to what they knew. So when she discovered the televisions in the common rooms as she explored, Susan wasn't shocked or surprised so much as intrigued.

It took her a little while to work out how everything functioned, between the screen and the little rectangular thing with the buttons. However, once she understood that pointing the thing at the television and pressing the buttons was a way to control it, Susan made herself comfortable on the couch with some tea, and slowly began to peruse the channels.

"Your people?" Inara asked with interest. "You are ruled by a lion? How does he communicate? Why does he choose the form of--I'm sorry, I'm being too forward."

"He speaks and we understand him," she said, shrugging slightly. "Many of our people are Animals in Narnia, and talk as freely as humans. As for his choice in form, I've never asked."

"Oh!" She took a minute or two to think about that. "You should meet Altra. He's a Firecat, but he speaks mind to mind and thinks very much for himself. He is a good ruler, your Aslan?"

"He is,," she said, filing that away about the other cat. "He leaves things to us, most of the time, probably out of his own occupation elsewhere and probably to test our rule."

So she hadn't misheard earlier. "Aren't you young to be a ruler? That sounds like quite a burden."

She smiled. "I've been a queen since the age of twelve. We have help, of course, but yes, all of us -- my sister and both brothers -- are the rulers of Narnia." She ducked her head. "Queen Susan the Gentle, my lady. But please don't call me that."

"Are you? Gentle?" Inara couldn't help asking.

"That's open to interpretation," Susan said dryly. "Moreso than my brothers or sister, I suppose."

She laughed. "Oh, I see. 'Gentle only by comparison' isn't very isn't inspiring, as far as titles go."
