Fourth floor common room, Tuesday evening

Being back in the dorms after a week of babysitting at the house, Dean wasn't feeling like staying in his room. So here he was in the common room, with freshly popped popcorn and soda and a tv with bad gameshows on it.

There were worse ways to spend an evening.

[ooc: open like an open thing as common rooms are wont to be]

Cal was pretty sure he didn't know the blond girl. If he changed that, he could be up to seven (or two, depending on where you counted from), so he gave her a smile, lifted a hand.

"Hi."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Hi," Meg said, smiling cheerfully at him. "I don't think I've met you yet."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think I've met you yet, either," Cal said back, smiling still to have that matter confirmed. "I'm Cal."

Seven. Or two. Awesome.

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm Meg," she said. "Are you new new or just sort of new? Or have you been here for a while and we've just kept missing each other?"

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Sort of new," Cal told her with a nod. "Started this summer. Coming out of the woodworks a little now in a quest to prove that I'm not that antisocial."

Which he was, but he was clearly willing to refute that merely to prove a point.

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"To prove that you're not antisocial to yourself or did somebody else accuse you of being so?" she asked.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Someone else," Cal said with a nod. "If I wanted to prove it to myself, I could probably convince myself well enough by staying in my room and talking to things."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Meg chuckled. "But things in your room wouldn't talk back."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm already talking to things in my room," Cal pointed out. "Would it really be that big of a step towards thinking they were talking back?"

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Good point," Meg said. "Although I honestly wouldn't surprised if things here started talking."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
"...Also a good point," Cal allowed, with a small tilt of his head, bowing the metaphorical ball of logic back into Meg's court. "For now, though, I'm finding it rather easy and surprisingly harmless to just go straight to the real actual people."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"We're a friendly bunch," Meg said, nodding. "Not exactly a normal bunch, but we are friendly."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I noticed that; freaked me right the hell out when I first got here. More so than all the weird shit that goes on. Ponies and island moving I can handle. The sheer amount of friendliness contained in the student body here, however...that is freaky."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I know what you mean. It shocked me too when I first came here," Meg admitted. "I was used to be the only nice person in town and then I come here and everybody is friendly."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Cal's head tilted slightly.

"That was weird for you, too, huh?" He couldn't help giving Meg a slight, additional glance over. As far as the other people he'd shared this sentiment with, she definitely didn't seem to fit much of the familiar shared traits, so he found himself a little intrigued.

Meg certainly didn't look like the kind of girl who had gone through getting beaten up by a pack of hobos because your friends were gone for the evening and they wanted to seize the chance to steal the good bushes by the bridge.

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Meg had never gotten beaten up by hobos, no. She had never been beaten up by anybody.

"The town I came from was kind of rough," Meg admitted.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Meg also didn't look like the kind of girl who might have once ridden her bike behind a tank through a race riot. In fact, not that he was one to make judgments on looks or anything (he, of all people!), but Meg didn't look like she'd ever be from anywhere that could really be considered rough.

But, since he was certainly not one to make judgments based on physical appearance (and how!), he guessed he'd just have to take her word for it.

"And where would that be?"

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Neptune, California," she said. "From what I understand, not everybody here has a Neptune. Well, the planet, yes. The town not so much."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I hear that stuff gets a little fishy. Is that anywhere near San Fransisco?"

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"It's about a half hour away from L.A., actually," Meg said. "Although my friends and I used to drive up to San Francisco when we feeling ambitious."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Cal scratched the base of his neck a little. "Yeah? What time frame we talking about? I know that's kind of wibbly-wobbly around here, too..."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, right now in Neptune it's 2006. So I guess I was going up and down the western seaboard with my friends around 2004-2005. We haven't had our licenses for very long."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Cal nodded a little. Good. Well beyond his time and the time of the Sixty-Niners. "Cool; you're a lot more up-to-speed time wise than I am."

[identity profile] goodgirlmeg.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"When are you from?" she asked.

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"1976," Cal said with a small smile. "I was actually in California for most of '74, but I'm originally from Detroit."
