The Roof [of Smoking], Thursday Evening

It was strange being back in Fandom, even after almost two weeks since his return. He'd not been getting out much, really, so it felt good to get up to the roof.

He pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, the first pack he'd bought in the past... Well, quite a long time. He usually didn't smoke alone, but something about the night just begged for one. So he opened the pack, slicing open the plastic cover with a fingernail (he really needed to get those cut), and tapped out one cigarette.

The spell to light it was easy enough -- calling heat was almost rudimentary, and, really, took almost less energy than pulling out a lighter, or striking a match. Breathing in, he let the smoke fill his lungs, and then released it with a sigh.

[Open like a roof, for anyone who'd have any reason to be up here! :D ]

"Well they say cream rises to the top and you can't get any higher here than the roofs," Seregil teased. He nodded at the cigarette Ronan held. "Tobaaco?" he asked, naming the more prevalent substance smoked in this world.

Ronan eyed the edge of the roof, memories of stepping out onto the air coming to mind. "Well, you can," he said, "but it's not always easy.

"Yeah, tobacco," Ronan replied. "I don't smoke it often, but every now and then..." He shrugged. "I just get the urge, I guess."

"I haven't tried it myself yet," Seregil said, eyeing the cigarette with curiosity.

"It's... addictive," Ronan said, "at least if you're not careful with it. And carcinogenic. But it doesn't stop people." He glanced around. "Obviously."

"So trying one would be living dangerously?"

"You could say that." Ronan chuckled. "Most of us get started young. The cigarette companies claim they don't do it, but most of the advertising targets kids. Even though it's illegal, in most places, to sell to anyone under the age of majority. So you start as a kid, and it's harder to break the habit when you grow up."

"What is supposed to be available and what actually is hardly ever matches up no matter where you are," Seregil observed.

Ronan nodded. "Yeah," he said, maybe a little sadly. "Too bad everywhere sucks that way."

"I don't know," Seregil said. "I think I'm comforted that no matter where you go, people are still just people."

"Yeah, there's that, too," Ronan said, smiling, his voice a little lighter. "Thanks," he added. "You always know exactly how to cheer me up."

"Much as the brooding look suits you, you don't want to overdo it," Seregil teased.

"Well, we can't have too much of a good thing," Ronan said, stepping a little further in towards Seregil. Right into his personal space, one might say.

"Best way to break a bad habit? Replace it with a better habit." Seregil smiled invitingly. "Find something else to do with your mouth."

Ronan laughed at that, unable to stop himself, but it was playful laughter more than anything else. "Do you have something in mind?" he asked, leaning in a bit more.

"I might have an idea or two," Seregil said, leaning in till they were breathing the same air.

"Me, too," Ronan said, leaning in just that LITTLE bit more, for their lips to touch.
