The Roof [of Smoking], Thursday Evening

It was strange being back in Fandom, even after almost two weeks since his return. He'd not been getting out much, really, so it felt good to get up to the roof.

He pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, the first pack he'd bought in the past... Well, quite a long time. He usually didn't smoke alone, but something about the night just begged for one. So he opened the pack, slicing open the plastic cover with a fingernail (he really needed to get those cut), and tapped out one cigarette.

The spell to light it was easy enough -- calling heat was almost rudimentary, and, really, took almost less energy than pulling out a lighter, or striking a match. Breathing in, he let the smoke fill his lungs, and then released it with a sigh.

"Sacred stone of Ireland," Ronan clarified, almost absently. "Pretty much is the equivalent of all of Ireland, although there is an actual physical stone, too. So, yeah, pretty big."

Yes, that was a joke.

"Nah," Ronan replied. "But my best friend's a leprechaun."

Also a joke. Really.

They preferred 'sidhe', anyway.

"Yeah? They like green as much as they say they do?"

"Only on alternate Tuesdays, really."

"Alternate Tuesdays, you say? How'd that come about?"

For a moment, Ronan mentally flailed about for something -- anything -- that could be halfway feasible. "Influence of Christianity," he said, completely deadpan, after just a moment's hesitation. Barely noticeable, that. "Relegates them to practicing the old traditions on rare, special occasions."

Cal nodded at this completely feasible response. "Because...alternate Tuesday are special occasions," he agreed in deadpanned consideration.

"For liking the colour green, yeah." Ronan shrugged. "It's associated with Tuesdays, y'know. In fact, the old Gaelic name for Tuesday means 'Green Day'."

There was a long pause.

"...No, it doesn't," Cal hazarded, although, for all he knew, it did.

"No, really," Ronan insisted. "It totally means Green Day. I mean, it's not really well known -- I mean, how many people know that Wednesday is named after Wodan?"

There was another pause.

"I don't even know who Wodan is," Cal offered, "but I do know that July was names for Julius Caesar, and August after Augustus..." Which he felt was sufficient proof for making sure Ronan didn't think he was just an ignorant jerk.
