Torn Toga Party! [Friday evening/night]

The deck was completed, and ready to be used.

The workers had cleared out just in time for the food and drink to be set out, and the coloured lights to be strung along the roof.

There was music, and space to dance on the lawn, and a cool breeze to cut through the heat of the day.

[ooc: In honour of Tiny Toons being released on DVD today, there are random containers of mango juice lying about. Also, any drinks may become mango juice. If a character drinks and says 'Ah! Mango juice!' an inflatable palm tree will fall on their head. Open to all ~~once~~ as the OCD is up!

Both of Cal's arms were now wrapping protectively around the inflatable tree. "Be nice all you want," he said. "You'll never get your hands on my tree."

Dōjima paused for a moment, letting that sink in. "Wow," she said finally. "I think that's something that I never thought I'd hear a boy say. Fandom is a very very strange place."

Cal so didn't mean it that way.

But now that it had been brought to his attention, he was going to just say he did.

"Hey, you're the one wanting my tree, here," he said, shrugging as best as one could while embracing an inflatable plant.

Dōjima hadn't meant it that way either, at least not originally, but she couldn't help having a dirty mind.

"Well, what's so special about your tree that you aren't will to share?" she asked sweetly, reaching out to poke at the plant. "It's a very nice tree."

"Thank you," Cal said, stroking one of its fronds, "I know. And you'd know why it was so special if you got to have it, but, since you can't, it looks like you'll have have to be content with your wishful thinking."

Cal's eyes shifted, slightly, briefly, to the side, because this, for all the pretense, was probably a lot truer than Dōjima would ever realize.

Dōjima stuck her lower lip out and pouted. "But whyyyyyy?" she whined. "I promise to play nice! I won't break it or anything!"

"If I let you play with it," Cal announced, "then someone might notice, and they'll want to play with it, too. And then everyone will want to play with my tree, and, eventually, down the line, some of them aren't going to take care of it, and then where would I be, hmm?"

"So you're really saying that you don't know how to say no," Dōjima said, suddenly looking very amused. "Once you start saying yes, you just can't stop. How absolutely terrible, that so many people might want to play with your tree."

"It's a burden, yes," Cal said, sighing deeply as he rested, as if exhausted, against the rubbery trunk of his inflatable tree. "They just see it, and they just want to touch it and play with it..."

Dōjima couldn't help it. She burst out laughing and poked the tree again. "So poor impulse control on all sides, then. They can't stop asking, and once you start saying yes, you can't say no. I think there's twelve-step programs for that sort of thing."
