The salle, Wednesday early afternoon

Jaina had been here most of the morning. She'd set up as many remotes as she could find, and maybe she'd build more later, but for now she was focusing on lightsaber drills. She knew that till the Myrkr was mission was over, it'd mean less time in the flight shed, and more here and in the gym. Possibly the shooting range, too. At least no one could say she wasn't taking this seriously.

She was going to be sore later from all the shots she was taking, but that was okay. If she could figure out where her weaknesses were, she could improve on them. By this point, she was learning not to react too much when she did get hit, working through it every time so that she could deflect the next bolt.

Jaina knew she'd have to stop soon, but she'd been doing it this long, what was another ten minutes? Ignore that she'd been saying that for about an hour now.

Cocking her head to the side, Temari stood quietly to the side and watched the girl and the... machine things.

"Are you trying to burn yourself out?" She asked dryly.

"Oh come on," Jaina said, surprisingly evenly considering she'd been doing this long enough to be breathing harder, "I've got at least half an hour till burnout."

"And you'll push yourself another half an hour after that," Temari replied knowingly, arms crossed over her chest. She did that herself more than enough.

"It's like you know me," Jaina said, batting away another bolt. She almost liked the excuse to talk to someone. It was good to see if she could work with the distraction.

"Great minds..." Temari lifted her chin toward the lightsaber. "What is that weapon, anyway?"

Without touching the remotes, she shut them down, deciding she could use a bit of a break before her muscles revolted on her. "It's a lightsaber," she said. "I've heard people call it an energy sword before. Same thing, really."

Neither of which really helped. The downside of being from a place so far behind on tech. "Hn. Are they technology?"

"Uh, yeah." Oddly, it was the first time she'd been asked something like that. "They've been around forever in my time, though. What do you use?"

"Actual swords." If you used that kind of weapon. "I'm not from a place with most of this--" She waved toward the bots.

"I think you may have the harder weapon," Jaina admitted, shutting her down for the moment. "I've only ever lifted an actual sword and it's completely not what I'm used to."

"Still better than the guns," Temari said, making a face at the thought. "How do they work? Your kind of swords."

That was all the encouragement Jaina needed to go into a lengthy description of the parts used and crystals and could go on for a while if not interrupted.

Temari stared for a moment. It was worse than asking her brother how the puppets worked.

"...wires," She decided, nodding definitely. "And crystals."

Jaina nodded. "And then you just flip a switch or push a button- depends on how you built it- and you get a dangerous glowy blade out of it."

"Collapsible weapon," Temari said, nodding. "Not a bad idea. Is it strong?"

"I've yet to break mine," she nodded. "The blade'll slice through just about anything, too. It's definitely got its pluses."

"So I guess a spar with it is out of the question..."

"I do keep a practice blade down here, can't hurt anything with it, but I'm afraid your real one may be a bit too much for it," she said with a little smile.

"I can use one, I don't make it my primary weapon," Temari said, correcting any misconceptions. "I'm more useful with a tessan and long-range attacks. But around here... I think close quarters would be more useful."

"What's a tessan?" Jaina wondered, not sure she'd ever heard the word before.

"A very large metal fan," Temari replied. "It's not a common weapon here, I gather."

"It could be, but I'm a little limited in my knowledge," she said. "How do you use it?"

"All my attacks use wind to knock my opponent back," Temari replied, waving her hands to explain.

If only there was some helpful sort of expository cartoon to illustrate it better.

"And it's a useful club when it comes down to is."

"I think I'd really like to see that in action sometime," she said, really kind of curious. "I'm Jaina, by the way."

"Temari," She replied, offering a hand. "I'd be willing to show you sometime if you're willing to help me train on close quarters fights."

She took her hand to shake, saying, "I'd be up for it. My free time seems to be down here anyway these days."

"A human opponent is always better than a target," Temari said, eying the bots again. "Even if they are very good."

"Yeah, my usual sparring partner's away for the summer. I make do." Also, she sort of thought fighting against something that didn't think like a human was good training.

"It you want to meet up again to try, just name a day."

"I'll be gone for most of the weekend," she said, and wow was this war putting a crimp in her schedule, "but maybe Sunday afternoon?"

Wars were social life killers like that.

Temari nodded. "Meet here?"

"I'll be here," Jaina told her. "And since if I start up again, I'll be here for the next three hours, I'll let you have the space to yourself."

"Appreciated," Temari replied with a dry sort of humor. "Try not to burn out before I have a chance for a decent fight."
