Second Floor Common Room [Thursday Evening]

Ned decided to cook.

After realizing he hadn't cooked anything but a can of soup (take out dinners were so much easier) in the last few weeks, he decided to rectify with a new take on a pie he'd made in the past.

So, there were supplies and ingredients and a guy in a flour stained blue apron moving about the common room.

Romeo had been joking. Mostly. But: "You know, I think you are on to something," he told her. "Perhaps the same Rune eats the missing socks when I do laundry."

"I never understood that," she said. "Why it's always the socks. You think that anything that would eat them would go for something better tasting than a sock."

He blinked. "How does a sock taste?"

She blinked right back at him. "How should I know?" Viki asked with dignity. "I do not eat socks. But I would imagine that they'd taste quite horrible."

"You were the one who brought it up!" he grumbled. "But I'd imagine the same."

"How else could they taste, really," she said, "living on peoples feet as they do?"

"Soap could not truly remove foot stench," Romeo had to agree. "And then there are the things people step in. A beast who ate socks couldn't be very particular."

"Or, rather, they could be particular, but only if they were terribly clever at getting into stores with socks that have never been touched. Those, I would think, would be more edible."

"No worse than any other cotton, at least," Romeo had to agree. "Though they'd probably also want white ones. Dyes might taste chemical-like."

"Unless the dyes are like flavours to them!" she chirped. "Do you think we could find a sock-eater and ask?"

"I'm not sure that would be such a good idea," Romeo said. "It might want to eat our socks."

"If we found a particular sock-eater though, and worn socks that had been worn before, it might work, don't you think?"

"Maaaaaybe," Romeo said, intrigued. "I suppose we'd need to look in the laundry room. Perhaps we could put togetehr an entire load of new socks as bait."

"It might just work," she agreed. "And socks are rather easy to obtain, really."

"The general store in town would sell them," Romeo said, only slightly dismayed to have to recommend a shop that wasn't Pixie Dust. "Do you want to look this weekend?"

"I'm busy this weekend," she said, dismayed. "There's a convention in, you know, and I'm working at the hotel with Miss Mary."
