Huggable Kitten Campfire, Thursday night

Okay, so flaming up and actually hiding in the fire probably wouldn't be so damn hot if he actually scared someone. But man it was a funny thought. And he'd totally apologize. So that's what Johnny was doing. He was in the fire. Crouching some and hanging out so to speak, ready to move and freak someone out if they came close.

He was kind of bored. Ooops.

[Yo, totally open to anyone.]

A small, brown and white rabbit and a hairless cat, as odd of a pair as they made, were exploring together, and, of course, they came across other campfires (even ones with names that, if he realized it, would make Prince Oscar Pedro a little depressed). Pride and Prince Oscar Pedro hopped and padded toward the fire, one out of having nothing better to do and the other out of hopes for getting pets, and then stopped, tilting their head with a bit of surprise to not actually see anyone there. They were both smart enough to know that fires were usually attended by people.

Prince Oscar Pedro let out a scratchy meow, calling out in case anyone was hiding.

Pride didn't care. Pride hoped it really was just a fire by itself, because he would have liked that much better.

Both of the mammals followed the fireball shooting straight up with their eyes until their eyes couldn't follow anymore without their heads joining, and their heads followed it until they couldn't tilt back anymore. When that came about, the two of them glanced to each other, exchanging looks.

At that moment, these two very different animals had the exact same thought, and very promptly turned tail and ran (or in Pride's case, hopped), deciding that there might be safer places to explore than one with an exploding fire.

If Pride could talk, he'd point out that at least Prince Oscar Pedro didn't have to worry about singed fur.

"You look like a demon, did you know?" Viki asked amicably, watching him curiously.

"Not particularly," she said, considering that. "Which means, if you are a demon, that you must be a terribly junior one to be asking that. I have always thought demons would just... know."

She beamed at the fireball. Yes, it was very nice.

"Not levels, I suppose, but age? I wouldn't know for sure, really."

"You're very good at that," she said, watching the fireballs. "Do you have a Fire Rune?"

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"A Fire Rune," she repeated patiently. "It allows the bearer to control fire."

To a certain extent.

"Though," Viki added fairly, "I've never seen one use it quite the way you are if you are, I mean."

Alice was walking back to the Grave Guinea Pig and trying not to notice all of the raging campfires, tiger tiger burning bright, licking eating up the night but it was all right. It was. She was perfectly safe, and so were --

There was a figure, in that fire. Consumed by it. A body set fully ablaze, crackling, peeling, popping, Mum? Father! Get out of the house, Alice!

She hardly realized she was screaming. She couldn't seem to stop.

"Are they much different from regular heroes?" Mildly amused.

[identity profile] blinkandsneeze.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I couldn't say for sure," she told him. "Because what might be 'snarky' to one person might not be 'snarky' to the next. I cannot help it if my question strikes you as such, as it was just a question and, as questions do, presented itself to you."

That was a yes. Vaguely. Maybe. Viki wasn't entirely sure herself.

"It hurts no one," Viki offered, trying to be soothing. "Really, he is not even a demon."

It certainly wasn't worth screaming over.

"Would you like some water?"

She grabbed for the front of his -- shirt? Did he have one? Had it burned into his skin, the crisp tang of smoke and flame and run, Alice, save yourself.

If her hands were getting singed, she didn't appear to notice.

"Get out of the house!" she told him, eyes wild and glassy. "Run!"

It wasn't Dinah's fault. She hadn't meant to. She hadn't.

"In my world," she said serenely, "we do not feel the need to add 'super' on to hero. Many of our heroes can, if fact, do many things. But they are still simply heroes. It is less confusing that way, I believe. And a hero is only as good as a hero does after all. Powers do not make a heroic person more of a hero."

A pause.

"And it's Viki." With a bob of her head. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
