Bumblebee had several times made the attempt to get back to the dorms, but had no luck in convincing whatever powers were at work that he needed to be there sufficiently bad enough to merit a pass.

So, in annoyance, he'd settled by the campfire for a nap. If nothing else he'd recharge his solar receptors while waiting to try again, because he sorely needed access to a hose if the thin layer of dirt all over his armor and windows was anything to go by.

Of course, no nap in a public space could go unpunished - while he rested, someone came by and wrote "WASH ME" in the dustiest part of Bumblebee's windshield. The automotive equivalent of a "kick me" sign, as Bumblebee had no idea and wouldn't until someone else pointed it out.

"There have been stranger things than a living island," Teddy replied. "Like... um... When we were in black and white for a dance!"

"Black and... white?" The significance was lost on Bumblebee, but he seemed eager to understand. "Why was that strange?"

"Well, normally we're in color and for that we were like an old TV show. You know, black and white."

"In monochrome?" He sounded perplexed, punctuating his tone with a faint rumble of his motor. "That is very strange."

"See, things happen weird here way to much for it to be a non-sentient island." Teddy shrugged. "The gender changes are the worst."

"I had the opportunity to change bodies with a human female," Bumblebee said. "It wasn't a terrible experience. Why do you find them unpleasant?"

Teddy waved vaguely at his chest. "I couldn't change them back."

Another pause as Bumblebee interpreted the motion. "...Are you referring to the physical differences between human sexes?"

"Yes!" Now Teddy was just flailing.

"Is it really so different? I didn't get a chance to experiment; not that I have much basis for comparison," he said, amused at the Sam-like behavior of the other boy.

"It's like... I dunno. Everything getting shifted into something you don't recognize," Teddy replied, waving his hands still to try and demonstrate.

"I see," he said thoughtfully. "Like scanning a new form - it always takes me a little while to feel comfortable."

Teddy paused, leaning forward. "What else can you turn into?"

"Currently I can only transform between my bipedal mode and this one," he said. "But I can trans-scan any vehicle that falls within my abilities."

"Nothing else?"

"There are some Cybertronians that have multiple altmodes, but my topology is limited to one," he explained.

"That kinda sucks." Teddy cleared his throat after realizing how bad that sounded. "I mean, for you. I'd hate to get stuck with only two ways to look always."

"My alternate mode has room for quite a bit of variation, really. When I say I am limited, I mean that I can't take an alternate mode with, say, flight capabilities," he added. "Why though? Do you have transformational abilities as well?"

Teddy nodded, poking at the dirt on the ground. "Yeah, I can look like pretty much anyone. I'm trying to get better at inanimate objects, but those are hard."
