Fourth Floor Common Room, Afternoon

Anyone who came into the fourth floor common room would be greeted by the site of a chimp, sitting on the couch and watching TV. He wasn't just watching it though, he also had a bowl of popcorn for throwing at the TV when it got too stupid, and a remote for changing the channel when he got bored.

The chimp was actually have some trouble staying on one channel and seemed to be changing them every few minutes.

"Ten minutes." Marco informed her. "But that was because Jake also duck taped it. And yeah, when I left home it was 2001 but some time has passed." He paused. "So now we're up to 2002. I think I'm from a sorta alternate world? Like, everything else is the same including Oprah? Except we had an alien invasion."

"And we ... didn't," Claire said, head bobbing in a nod. "I'm kind of surprised Oprah didn't turn out to be an alien."

Marco paused. "Nah. Now Martha Stewart on the other hand...Actually, Johnathan Taylor Thomas was definitely an alien. He ran screaming from a crocodile." There was a long pause again. "Don't ask."

She didn't. She just boggled. "The kid from that sitcom?" she asked. "I kinda had the little brother pegged for the evil one."

"Because that's where all the aliens hang out," Claire said. "That's such a good reason not to go on cruises."

"Oh, he's not an alien anymore." Marco consoled her. "He just had one in his head." Sometimes, the boy should not be allowed to talk.

"Oh." Claire said. "So I would have noticed if aliens invade my L.A., right? Nobody I know" -- like, say, Gabe -- "could have an alien in their head?"

"I think they're just native to my world." Marco informed her. "And uh, no you probably wouldn't have. They started invading in the 90s and no one noticed till 2001."

"That's really freaking weird," Claire informed him. "So they just kind of hung out and did nothing for like five years?"

"No one noticed." Marco said quietly. "They just kept taking over and no one noticed. So why'd you get shipped off here?"

That was horrifying, and it took Claire a moment to answer. "The guy I was dating," she said. "Gabe. He was doing a lot of drugs, like hard stuff, and it got scary. My brother asked if I wanted to change schools to kind of get some distance, and I didn't see a reason to stay in L.A."
