Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Having had a rather...eventful day (it wasn't every afternoon that a girl hatched a tiny girl with snakes for hair out of an egg, after all), Aravis was curled up comfortably on a couch in the fourth floor common room with a cup of tea.

Somehow the colder weather wasn't helping her mood, either.

Nor was the programming on the television. "I don't understand why we're supposed to care about any of these people," Aravis sighed, blowing onto the surface of her tea so that the steam would rise into her face, because in her opinion, that was far more interesting than Rumor Gal.

"Come on, it's a trashy teen soap. It has to more entertaining than that," Dick argued.

"This is my first time watching," she told him. "I've no idea who the characters are or why I should care about their shallow manipulations."

She paused, and added, "And I've not seen a single one of them washing anything, so I'm not sure what soap has to do with it."

"'Soap' is a word for a kind of TV show. Overly focused on relationships, completely random dramatic happenings, suave evil people, that kind of thing," Dick explained. "It's fun because it's so over the top. Not necessarily good, but fun."

"Why is it called that?" she asked. Tonight was a night of confusion for Aravis.

"I think they were usually sponsored by soap companies about fifty years ago, so it ended up being a nickname that stuck," Dick said. "Either that, or there might have been a TV executive named Lenny Soap or something."

"Neither of those is as interesting as I'd hoped," Aravis admitted.

"That's only because you don't know more about Lenny Soap," Dick argued.

"So tell me about him," she said, raising her eyebrows.

"I don't know more about him either, but you've got to assume that he's a pretty interesting guy if he got this named after him," Dick said.

"Not necessarily. He could simply be wildly rich or the best-looking, but he could still be very boring," she pointed out.

"I've never met a boring guy named Lenny, so I don't think that's the case," Dick said.

"Do you often meet people by that name?" she replied.

"More often than you'd think," Dick said. As it turned out, it was a popular name for criminals in Gotham.

"I don't believe I ever have," Aravis mused. "But then I scarcely meet people with names common from my home here, or the other way around."

"What kind of names are common from your home?" Dick asked.

"Ahoshta, Ardeeb, Rishti, Djamilana, Fairuz, Lasaraleen..." she listed. "They get simpler the more northward you go."

"Nope, I've never heard any of those before. You weren't kidding," Dick said.

"I've never met another Aravis, either," she added.
