Dorm Gym, Tuesday Morning

It was cold. John could admit that, but he would not admit the cold was the reason he was spending his workout time indoors today. He did not want to be seen as getting soft by certain people.

After working with the weights, he grabbed his water and towel and started a nice run up and around fake mountains. Technology was a great thing.

Jaina didn't have much time this morning, but after her calls this morning she knew she should hunt John down. It wasn't too big a shock to find him here. "Indoors today?"

"Nope, I'm outside, running over a mountain, can't you tell?" John teased.

"I'm sorry, I was fooled by that treadmill," she said dryly. "You got a second?"

"That depends on what I did," John replied. "How bad's the damage?"

"You didn't do anything, but I don't want you having to jump off that thing," she replied.

"Okay, you've got me interested," he said slowly, pressing a couple buttons to slow the machine to a stop. "What's up?"

She sort of didn't want to say it, still not sure how she felt about the whole thing. Not that she was telling him that any more than she had. "You're in," Jaina said. "Heard from Wedge this morning."

"I'm in?" He nearly bounced off the treadmill in excitement. "Like, in in?"

See, that was why she didn't want him moving when she told him. She couldn't help but smile at the reaction, either. "You've got a spot in the flight school. I'll give you all the information you'll need to get in touch with them to arrange it, but yes, you're in."

"Now that is awesome news," he grinned "This'll be great."

"I can't guarantee anything," she went on. "I don't doubt that you can get into a squadron afterwards, volunteer or not, but that part's all up to you."

"I think I'll manage all right," he promised. "But we'll cross that bridge as soon as we get there." Now he could only hope for training sooner than later.

"We'll just keep you practiced," Jaina told him. "Especially since I doubt I'll oversleep anymore."

"I gather someone's feeling better?" He was glad to hear it.

"Told you it was just a cold," she said, with a little ha tone. She still had a teensy cough, but she wasn't mentioning that.

"You did," he agreed. "And you also slept through working in the sim because of it." In his mind, missing work was the opposite of her style.

"Once," she said pointedly. "I'm back to my old self, promise." Her tireless workaholic self.

"Good, then I can get back to my job of bugging you till you stop working again." His mood was going to be much too high the rest of the day.

"Too bad you're going to have to wait on that today. Got a class assignment to do," Jaina warned.

"What sort of assignment?" John asked.

[solo_sword]

"I have to spend 48 hours over the next week with both Ino and Eve," she explained. "I think we're all going to work with each other to knock out our time."

John puffed out his lips. "They're coming to work with you, too?" He didn't laugh, it was real growth. "Should I be taking bets at how long they survive?"

"They're not coming to work with me," Jaina said patiently. "I leave that sort of thing for you."

"So what do you ladies have to do together?" John wondered. "Just hang out or is it a productive sort of task."

"I think not kill each other, honestly. Like a diplomacy thing. There have been a lot of people I haven't killed who really deserved it, so this should be nothing," she replied.

"And they can't possibly be as annoying as some of the people I know you deal with," John smiled.

"Did you know when you get promoted, the level of beaurocracy you have to deal with increases?" she asked. "Because it does."

"Lemme guess," he started, "paperwork?"

"So much of it," Jaina sighed. "Jag's got a good portion of it now, but the goddess thing doesn't work on him and he won't do it all."

"You should make your partners help with your paperwork," John suggested. "They might like it."

"I can't. It's classified," she said, making a face. "You have to have certain security clearances just to look at some of it."

John should not be smiling at that. "Guess that means I don't have to worry about getting roped into helping."

"Not unless you end up having to file your own," she said sweetly.

"Oh that's just mean," John replied. "It's good I know you'd never encourage others to give me extra, right?"

"All depends on how nice you're being, I guess." She may or may not have been telling the truth there.

"I can be nice," he promised, leaning one arm against the treadmill.

"I know you can," Jaina smiled. "But for now, I should head on over to clock in my time."

"Schedule some time for later and I'll make sure we're working under the same definition for nice," he teased, moving forward to give her a peck on the cheek.

"I'll do that," she said, smile widening. And then she'd also remind him that he could actually kiss her again. "I'll see you after?"

"Definitely," he grinned, looking forward to later quite a lot.
